Maybe, or maybe not. I've come across some sportbike riders who probably couldn't keep up with you average Harley rider.

I remember a photo of a scooter rider that thought he was really leaned over. Maybe that is who you are thinking about.

I would LOVE to see these guys trying to track down a sportbike on that road. Ain't gonna happen so I can only guess they'd chose to use the radio instead.

Hard to run when laying on the ground.
So everyone on a sportbike is a squid now ?

What I wonder is:

If we have this--

why do we still have this?

No, but the ones that would try to run from the cops definitely fit that category IMHO

Because it's still the only "real" route into Graham County from I-75/640.

And most dispatchers are fucking lazy.

She is PISSED because Junior bought that damn yellow rice rocket, instead of a "real motorcycle".

diesel fuel is 4.00-4.30 a gallon. Big trucks get 4.5-6 mpg. How much further is it to drive around? No one is going to want to pay the extra money for the drivers time, fuel and wear and tear. surely someone can figure out a solution to the problem. Have a bike ride head and alert riders. put up ONE light that signals a truck is coming through...something. But I don't care since I will only ever see that road through this thread!
It seems the bikes are more dangerous then the trucks!

It is a federal highway called US 129.
Back in the 1990's I signed a petition at the old Deal's Gap store against straightening the Dragon.
NC tried to restrict big trucks off the Dragon several years ago and caused a uproar among the locals in Robbinsville.
The locals want to straighten 143 West of R'ville so they can get to town faster.

Sign on 143 West of R'ville. Kinda embarrassing to motorcyclist that bikes are included in the warning.
Idiots riding over their heads and crashing and dying ain't helping either.

According to my atlas from 2003, US129 is off limits to truckers from 74 north. Are you telling me that's a new law? Maybe my atlas just did that as an advisory.

I guess its time to get a new one. This just made me realize that I'm using a decade old map.

How much does this save in time and fuel and failed delivery?

Maybe there's a Dragon-fest thread somewhere on an 18-wheeler website!

The dispatcher tells the driver where to go and how to get there. My brother drives a truck, I told him to not EVER let a dispatcher suggest that he cross 129 and I showed him pictures.

He got dispatched in West Virginia once and ended up in a man's front yard....that was a long day.
