The train that wrecked on Canadian maintained rails because of a Canadian crewman who forgot to set the brakes...........

Actually he set the brakes which need an engine running. While he slept the engine caught on fire and the fire department put it out. The brakes lost pressure as a result.

And the owner of the company (from Chicago) comes across as the least compassionate
Mr. Burns type that I've ever seen.

I can't believe the lack of empathy that posting that picture displays. Too many people were killed to make even the slightest
joke about it.

This is the part that doesn't make sense so I'm waiting for more info to come out: My understanding is that the brakes are set to fail on and you need the engine running to build up pressure in the system to allow the brakes to release. So precisely this kind of thing can't happen. It's sounding more like the engineer just didn't set the brake which may be evidenced by his firing but we don't know the whole story yet.

My father worked with trains for many years and I can promise that when something goes wrong, it is NOT a minor event.

My deepest prayers and sympathy are offered for all involved with that tragedy.

I doubt (or hope) that anyone who made light of this horrific event has witnessed even a minor rail event or they would not have put fingers to keyboard to post.

You're not seeng the physics of this. Force = mass x acceleraton. The BMI of the average pirate chic is greater than 30. Corner = big trouble.

thank you for clarifying that. I heard news reports mentioning an earlier fire, it didn't mention a time line and i thought it was days earlier. NOW, it makes sense. So the engineer/crewmen is not to blame?
