I was puzzled by this when I first moved to Virginia from Wyoming. Out there most of the mammals are considerably bigger - deer, bears, bunnies, squirrels, etc. Aside from the obvious male/female and young/old influence on size, I thought WTF, there is so much better habitat (and so much more of it) here in Virginia than, say, the high country of the Wind River Mountains, so why are all the critters so much smaller? With all the available food why aren't these things the size of elephants? A biologist friend explained that there is a well-documented principle (can't remember the name now) that animals in colder climates need more body mass to survive the harsh winters and lean times. I am continually amazed at how small the white-tailed deer are out here, not much bigger than a large dog. It doesn't appear to apply to birds, reptiles, fish, etc.

The principle seems true for most but not all mammals - the majority of humans out here seem to exhibit the opposite body mass trend as the other fur-bearing critters.

I don't know if this is a fail or a carefully calculated effort to use up all the available rubber on that tire. On a road as twisty as the Dragon, he's not spending much time at all on the center of the tire, ya know. But I agree - if she knew it was like that, the dude would have a new tire IMMEDIATELY.
