Bump.

There has been progress.

Engine is back in the frame.

LeighSA has suggested, and I've agreed, that the countershaft sprocket cover re-design will have to wait. It did get a start.

The plan now is to get the thing onto three wheels and back on the road first. Then Leigh can manufacture the alternative parts - sprocket cover and airbox - as he goes through the motions of attaching a duplicate sidecar to this.

Well, we can't expect the man to do it from memory I had to give him something to be able to work with.

I picked it up a couple of months ago. Strong motor, body panels are a bit shabby but no damage other than scuffs. It currently is a bit scary to ride 'cause the tyres are just wrong. W I D E front tyre and a skinny little rear tyre make it's steering something to be ....there is no word for it. Previous owner rides Harleys, so has no idea of going around a corner.

So, I dealt with that and bought this too

So whilst Leigh has been doing the real work, I've been doing the housework and bringing my 'short range tourer' up to spec. Took me a couple of days to get the Safari tank to fit, got the KTM screen delivered and laid in the wiring for the GPS. Waiting for my luggage carrying aluminium bits. Hopefully less intimidating that the 950 was in the mountains.

Anyway, sorry for jacking my own thread.

The majority of the clamps etc that will be required have been completed and two sidecar hubs have been turned up. They are to be sent off to a specialist to drill for spokes.

The mould for the nosecone is to being very shortly too.

Did I tell you that the sidecar will have rubber mounts? Leigh is going to insert Yamaha handlebar rubbers into the mounting bars. Something that the SA road trial riders have done for years apparently.

Thought you may be interested.

The nosecone moulding has commenced.
I was speaking with Leigh a couple of days ago. There is this very stubborn High pressure system over NSW that is dragging a heap of hot air down into Sth Oz. It's been >35 deg C for the past week.
Well folks, that means that one can't really work fibreglass resin because it goes off too quickly.

And the plug for the floor of the rear box has been knocked up.

bloody exciting and glamorous photographs. Perfect exposure and the construction and framing is to be commended.

Err... it's some MDF screwed together.

Ayway, I was just feeling that given the way the other three OZ outfit threads are percolating, I'd give this one a bump.

And seeing as how this is a 2 in 1, does that mean that there are 3 new outfits in both SA & Vic at different points of destruction?

Wonder how many there are in the rest of the country?

Pull the engine

Sell it for some extra coin (you'll need it for the next step)

Replace engine with a 900+cc Turbo Diesel either Lombardini or Dihatsu.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRC7H8PMaGQ

Would be excellent power for a hack

Yeah, seen that video. Funny thing is it still sounds a lot like a 850cc, carburettor'd Triumph triple.

And it would be excellent power for an outfit. If the Tiger was never going to be sufficient, it would be a Suzuki 1200 or 1400. But the old girl has adequate power and this sidecar will be much lighter than the earlier one. I may have to ballast it more often than not.

Expected new or returned outfits -

TD
3 Legs
Schmerely
Nevgriff
myself (must change SCray to something else, sounds like a disease)

any more?

plus any or all of the outfits that have been around for a while. Should be quite a few, especially since it is comparatively easy to get to where ever it is going to be - Tiboburra or whatever.

I've kept my head down so far, but next week I should have my Ural, and I'm aiming to lose my OCR virginity.

New new... our first outfit. It's been a long time coming and I didn't I didn't really know anyone here so there was nothing to say beyond 'we're talking about it', so I kept quiet.

We haven't been to a rally in 20 years, I'm not sure how the camping will go but it's time to get out there and find out.

Ray,

Im still hoping to get the outfit built once I finish the XR460/4 for the Scrapheap Adventure Ride. Lots of drawings still need some more time in the day.

Look forward to seeing yours there!
