Well, it's not local, but just got back from a Utah trip. Ended with a couple of days in Moab. Rented a Jeep Rubicon 4-door with 640 miles on the odo, front & rear lockers - loaded. Drove the White rim trail... started @ 8:30am & got back at 6:15pm. What a GREAT day. Ready to go back with the DRZ!

My neighbor just bought a CRF and really likes it. It's not exactly a lightweight, but it should feel light as a feather on the trails after your KLR !! I hear it's pretty well behaved on the roads too.......

It turned out that I was doing very little slabbing (0 - 8 miles), and spent most of my time on gravel & trails. So, I thought I'd give this bad boy a try - it's 60 lbs lighter than my WR :)

Very Very good choice-------------

Rode up Mt. Horab yesterday. There's a new clearcut that opens up some new views. There's a new access road that comes in from your left, it's the 2nd road that goes up about 3/4 mile after you get out of the trees.....

Yes, you guys should !! Right now, with the high elevation snow, we still end up doing out and backs as opposed to loops. The Monument Peak system south of Gates/Mill City is a good choice this time of year, all kindsa lower elevation forestry roads......

Just bought some Giant Loop MoJave Enduro bags. Great product, installs in a few minutes, and the company is locally owned and situated in Bend. On my bike, the material connecting the 2 bags just slides under the rear of my seat, then I just have 2 straps to attach......

Pulled my bike out of the shed this morning & had a no start situation. Dammit. Had it on the battery tender all winter.
Too lazy to pull the seat & tank to get the plug out to check for spark. May get to it sometime this week.

4-18 - Threw a new plug in & it started, but it runs crappy. I'm sure the carb is gunked up. Don't want to mess with it, no time. Took it into the shop today & dropped it off. Should be back in action next weekend.

Made it to the end of Elkhorn Mtn. Rd today, plowed through some minor snow just past Elkhorn Lake, but, no biggie. My riding friend & I think we were the first bikes this year. I did see a Husky coming down the road on Monday, but, no tire tracks beyond the lake. The snow has melted 3 weeks earlier than last year, and the latest melt recently was in 2008 - July 8th !!
We were also up at High Rock, overlooking Thomas Creek yesterday, no problem if you approach from the west......

Spent the weekend in Detroit, Saturday rode into Elk lake, then up to Breitenbush & over the hill to hwy22. Then took blowout road around the backside of Detroit lake & came out over the dam. Did not encounter ANY snow on the roads & very little snow to be seen on the sides of the road.
Tried to do USFS road 2207 from the Detroit side today on my DRZ on the way back to Salem, hit snow about 1/2 mile past the major slide area. Would have been able to make if it was not uphill.

Snow is gone from 2207 now. Rode over the top from the Elkhorn side, then up past Tumble Lake. The photo is looking west over the N. Santiam Canyon. Pretty much everything below 4,000 ft is snow free now....
