What is the difference between the 600 and 650 other than the kicker and 50cc?
Kick start seems to the missing equation with dualsports.
Not that I can use one but it would make feel good.

I've got a buncha miles on both, and there are a few differences:
1) 564cc engine as opposed to 649cc engine
2) 3-gal. gas tank as opposed to 6.1-gal. tank
3) Wet weight around 340# as opposed to ~410#
4) Drum rear brake instead of a disc
5) Twin radiators on the 600
6) Much smaller fairing on the 600, like the KLR 250's

Of course lotsa things are the same, like the Keihin CVK40 carb, 9.5:1 compression, questionably engineered chain-driven counterbalancer system complete with failure-prone "doohickey," valve shims, and 17/21 wheel sizes.

I sold my old KLR600 about 15 yrs ago but as I recall it woulda been more than a match for my 650 in a dragrace, as the lighter weight made up for the displacement disadvantage. The 600, as you'd imagine, was much better offroad but still no true dirtbike by any means. First gear was remarkably short on the 600, making the bike a fantastic wheelie machine. Not that I condone such illegal, unsafe, and non-Swampy-approved behavior, you understand.

Had a lotta fun on my old 600; I abused the hell out of it for 3 yrs, and it never let me down. Burned quite a bit of oil, tho...
