Just got back from a spot of camping up in the White Mountains ....

We were in our cheesy China Mart tents (had the dogs ... no way I'm ruining a good tent)

And next door to us was parked one of these

Four Winns Fun Mover

Wish I had taken some pictures of it now .... makes one feel quite inadequate

My daughter wanted to know when we were going to buy something like it .... How do you explain that Daddy would have to hold up a bank or win the powerball ...

I just learned this about the Sprinter:

"I spoke with the MB Sprinter rep at GNR this week who indicated they will be increasing to 250 dealers by the end of 2010 and up to 300 sometime in 2011.

> MB is in the process of setting up an additional 100 MB/Freightliner dealers to handle Sprinter so within a year or so we should see a lot more service outlets."

Looks great for weekends but not much space inside for fulltime use.

Early 2000s E450 series fun movers are around 25-30K. Less $$$ than a new wrangler rubicon unlimited. Too many toys to choose from and not enough money.

If you're going to go all out, you may as well get this one: Luxury Home on Wheels

Very sweet trailer.

^ The Toronto Transit Commission had those for wheel chair busses.
They kneel in the back. One of those would be a good bike hauler but I think
they're city use slow and not very highway friendly.

That was built by a guy over on Big Pine Key in the Florida Keys. He must be the only industry there, other than the No Name Saloon and a couple of folks that are dedicated to taking care of the Key Deer.

Anyway, his best known client is Will Smith (that might be Smith's home; I'm not sure) and those trailers are more like mobile permanent housing rather then RV's.

Evidently they set that up for Smith and his family when they are on location doing a film.

Just a note on truck campers...

I can drop mine off at a buddy's house for storage anytime and use the truck-well-as a truck.

Granted, campers have downsides to them-mainly space and you have to have a large truck.

But, you have a large motorhome anyway....?

Not for everyone, but they work a lot of the time.

Ran across this today. A stretch, I know, but what's unusual is that he has both the truck and the trailer set up for ISO containers, and the start of a camper built into one of those 20 ft. ISO containers.

If I had cubic money I'd be tempted to play with something like this. Demount the container, and use it as a shelter, carry bikes in the 2nd unit. Etc.

Couldn't you do exactly the same thing with say a Freightliner FL80 with a 30+ foot box towing a drawbar trailer. Of course you'd need your HGV1 (don't know the equivalent over here).

you can get international straight trucks in all wheel drive, do not know if you can get them with 2 steering axles in AWD, I know you can get one with 2 normal, non-driven steering axles

110 KPH top speed is just under 70 MPH so it would not be too much of a pain to drive it on the highway to where you were going to wander around off road
