I had to rebuilt the gearbox, final drive, all possible seals you can think of and generally just did my head in, but what a great bike. Miss it badly

Got this R80 all spec'd up by sheck in Germany (Shame the bike lives in South-Africa) which I ride on holiday's

Does not look like much but Mahle piston/barrels & rings. Twin Plugged, WP rear shock, HPN tank and yes that poor seat is a Corbin. Bike has been through Africa(Pity not with me on it) and still going strong.

I enjoy tinkerering on the airheads as they have charachter and always something to fiddle about with. The R45 was bought as a project for my wife and I will be damned if that bike get stripped for spares - no way jose

Hey Mav very cool bikes,

To me its easy for some to say why would you bother when they see a pic of your R45, But thats what restoration is all about isnt it. All you need is the passion & just a small amount of patience

Give big space to the festive dog that makes sport in roadway. Avoid entanglement of dog with wheel spokes.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, As there lurks the skid demon. Press the brake foot as you roll around the corners, And save the collapse and tie up.

Sorry, but this bike looks like it has enjoyed a former career as an artificial reef. Are you really going to spend the time and $$$?

Airhead forum would be AOK.

Thumb

I would like to see one. I have my father's '72 /5 that I plan to rebuild sometime next year, and I think that there would be a lot of information to gain. But,, I understand that it would take a lof effort to maintain it. Why not give it a try, can't hurt too bad.

So, Powers That Be.

Is there a form to fill out? Is there an on-line request page?
What's our next step here to create the "Airhead" forum?

Hey Flash,

Im wondering if maybe we should post something down in the "Ask Baldy, Blame Fish" Forum with a link back to this thread, May get noticed then & we can see where to go from there.

The problem with this is that would airhead GS's go in Airheads or GSpot? That would be confusing. Unless GSpot got renamed to Oilheads/Hexheads which I don't think will go over and I personally think its stupid. Maybe a VINTAGE forum makes sense for non GS airheads and other old POS.

A lot of the airheads used for adventure riding are GSes, after all.
I guess that is the point Kurt. Where to place is a qustion with at least three good answers right now. You gotta go on safari to find an Airhead thread.

Maybe Komet is onto something - a vintage type of forum.
Airheads would probably dominate but it would broaden the "viewer base"

Here is hte Idea

We call it "Old School Rides" and subtitle it "Airheads, Brits, Guzzi's, UJM's and the rest" (would that fit)

That way when I finally get a Commando I can stay and play.

How are we doing?

I think this is a great refinement of the original idea, and it would seem to have less overlap with the other forums. Calling it "Airheads" or "Old School Rides" matters less to me than having a place to talk about /7, /6, /5, and /2 specific issues.

I have suggested this before – but got “balled out” – too intellectual for most of these guys – too young to know and too old to educate.

Why don't we simply hijack the forum of choice and go from there?
