That happens on a good ride. A lot.

[rant]

I have tried, and tried to give GG Motorsports every chance to continue to earn my business... I bought my 4-wheeler there, I bought my KLR there, I have bought numerous parts and accessories there. I have recommended them to many people and they help sponsor our (don't) Fall DeSoto Rally...

But they just got strike two at lunch.

I went in to get spare keys made for the KLR. I waited in line (all 4 parts counter stations are now manned). Approached the next available parts agent and told her what I wanted. I needed a key copied. She said only one person there knew how to make keys and as soon as he finished with his current customer, he would do it. So I go scout the store, pick up a mini-fork brace that protects springs when strapped down. I was looking at other gear and finding more parts and stuff to buy. I wander back over and he is still waiting on the same guy. So I make another loop, go look at the new CBR1000RR near the door. Walk back and he is helping a new customer who came in behind me. So I stand there by the line. He waits on another new person and I see my key laying on his desk.

I wait another few minutes and he starts to help the next person in line and I put my stuff down on the floor, walk up and grab my key off his desk, head to the front door where I complain about the poor service in the parts department. The salesman who sold me the KLR and who has shown an interest in one day doing some DS riding offers to step in to help, but it is already 1:15 and my lunch hour is long gone... So I complain a bit and run out the door. The weather is too great to be stuck waiting in line at the stealership!!!!

I went in to get a spare key made a while back and was told they didn't make them at all, so you got farther than I did. Where DO we get spares made?

According to the documentation that came with my bike, I can order them with the number on the emergency tag that was on the keyring. I've started doing business with an online OEM parts distributor and had a lot better luck with them, so I may see if they can order keys from the ID code.

Besides, I guess I have to go to another dealer, but GG has been the best that I have dealt with in MS... Which may not be saying much...

There is a Shop in Richland that is suppose to be able to make keys, and I have also been told that Ace / Revel can make keys for some models less than 10 years old or so. But I have not personally tried either. Though i need to.

BW, it's frustrating not getting what you want when you want it but GG doesn't deserve a strike over that. I'd love to have a GG in VxB.

Your hardware store could do it if they had the blanks, but they don't.

It's not so much not getting "what I want, when as I want" as much is it is my disapproval of poor customer service, slacker mentality, lazy and un-managed employees, no order or method to the order in which they serve people, etc. It bothers me to see people work harder at avoiding doing THEIR JOB THAT THEY ARE PAID TO DO than if they just DID the job...

But this seems to plague EVERY motorcycle dealership in the world if you listen to what people post on forums about them. The office people and salespeople know me and are great. It's just this one guy in parts that won't get off his stool to do his job. I overheard the 3 ladies at the desk calling people to say their ordered parts are in, etc. They have NEVER called me when my stuff comes in (at least when this one lazy guy did it)... And if they only have one person in the whole building who can make keys, that is poor management. I'll go back, I don't have much choice with my Good Times Protection Plan, but I will let the guys in the office know that I am getting fed up with the poor customer service... Heck, Ben has probably already taken care of it for me. (Same thing happened when new KLR had oil and water leaking out of the water pump housing... They don't prioritize or have any order to their maintenance dept. They will let bikes sit for weeks cause they are waiting on parts for ones on the stands... I talked to the manager and had mine back in 24 hours and have had no other problems from it.)

Nope.

You can order blanks online and take them to be cut. Also, call Aloha Lock & Key Shop [354 East Fortification Street, Jackson, MS 39202-2325](601) 355-5397‎. They had key blanks for a 1971 Triumph TR6 I had a few years back, so you never know what they may have in stock.

Sadly, it is not just motorcycle dealerships that suffer this problem. Ask any one that owns their own business and I bet their number one problem is finding competent help. Try running a help wanted ad in the paper and see what shows up at your door. Laziness and an "I don't give a damn" attitude is rampant. Unemployment figures are high, but I believe it is because most of them are too lazy to even try. All they want is to put in their hours with as little effort as possible and collect a paycheck with no pride in workmanship. Ignorance is a plague on our country. Now look what you did, you got me started on a rant.

My job here is done...

Okay, when we riding again? It is killing me to sit at my desk and see this most excellent weather and can't ride, at least until 4:30 when I head for PT!

I think Revell ACE in Byram has some bike key blanks.

You may also want to try Butler Locksmith, it is downtown. I have had many keys made there, with not 1 return! 601-352-8416 If Sherry answers, be gentle, she is easily riled up. She is cool once you meet her. But she would tell you to Kiss her A--, quickly, if riled.
Or, ask to speak to Guy, her husband. Either are very good key makers, if they dont have the blanks, I am sure they could cut them, if you got the blanks.
PS: If you go there for keys, don't be thinking about evilbollweevil
