Heading out tomorrow, PA up to Hyner Run. Then to the Finger Lakes and maybe Lake Ontario Sunday. Returning Monday. Built the latest mod tonight, a potato launcher for tailgaters.

Last call for anyone who wants to join me for the beginning of my trip monday. Looks like skyline drive is the goal and as much of the Blue Ridge Parkway as we can in one day. Feel free to join us for any part of it.

Ran the north part of Skyline Drive yesterday afternoon.
Sure was a nice day for riding. This shot on the move - inspired by Donnymoto's photography. ![]() Skyline Drive overlook.

Weekend ride - Day 1 Pennsylvania
OK: left Saturday AM and took the slab to Tyrone, PA. On the way I stopped at Starbucks in Leesburg and another rider was there on his Ducati. We chatted about riding a bit, he also rides a BMW RT. Time flys and I realized that the morning was getting later so I hopped on the road.
![]() Tyrone. ![]() From there I'd mapped out about 130 miles of whatever MapSource says is a dotted line, usually gravel. Destination, Hyner Run Park., PA. Roads started out well, ![]() but can I do 130 miles of this in half a day, ![]() no but I have a tent, water and food so off we go. ![]() It didn't last long though until I hit some nice stuff that I can get more distance on, 50-60 was a breeze on the strait stretches but there a lot of deer, a LOT in PA. At least the roads I took so I kept it down when there were hidden areas. ![]() Thing I really like about this, turn off the engine and it's totally silent. Could hear thunder in the far distance, that's it. Stop for coffee here, ![]() Trip was uneventful so far and a lot of fun. I finished the gravel stretch and started down the awesomely twisty road down to Renovo PA. This pic doesn't show the twisty but has a story. ![]() Just after this rock, I was winding up a section of road and thinking how coming from the other direction, this curve has a decreasing radius plus it's going downhill. Then I spot 2 bikes on a dirt road that intersects the turn... at the bottom. Looked suspicious so I turned around and asked if they needed help. They were from Ontario headed down to the Blue Ridge Parkway and one guy hit the curve, too fast. Luckily he only scratched up the side of his RT but he crossed the oncoming lane (that's the one I was in) and missed a tree by 2 feet before coming to a stop. Was OK. Then the rain came but it was good because it washed off a lot of the mud off my boots and bike. After gassing up I saw that I got 58 mpg and averaged 41 mph on gravel. Interesting, on the highway I get 50. Hmmm. Hyner View, rode up to taking in the sights before turning in for the night. ![]() Day 2 coming up soon. donnymoto screwed with this post 06-16-2009 at 04:33 PM |
