I sent a FB message to the granddaughter of the man who founded Royal Land and whom I went to school with for many years, and told her we met her uncle and that they really need to save the sign... I've been watching Pickers too much and that sign would be awesome on the wall somewhere as a decor piece!!!

New Tag

Tag Photo

Where Swoosh is hiding (orangish pipe to the left of the gate).

View from the road.

What you would see if you took the long walk in from the gate to the historical site.

The tag is located on a road named after the site. The site itself gained its fame for two events that happened in the mid 60's that put Mississippi into a small group of 5 states in which similar events have taken place. In fact, Mississippi is the only state east of the Mississippi River subjected to such an event. The first site is at White Sands, NM.

A little more than half of what you a Trophy did on your maiden voyage on the Wee, but plenty since I waited until it got hot before I decided to go. Figured it would be a repeat of Saturday when I got halfway to the tag and found out the Blue Crew was already there - I was even on a blue bike (if a KLR counts).

Didn't feel very good this morning so I thought I'd take a long walk. Felt better but not good enough for work.

You may could have rode all the way in from the back side. I was going to try it when the weather cooled off a little bit.

That was my plan. I put the tag where I did because it's on street view (thought most would need some confirmatiom of the tag before riding down there) and planned to loop around to the other side since it was clear that you can get at least within a mile if there is a gate over there that prevents riding in.

However, I took the scenic route from Meridian (routed on the fly) and my gps took many short cuts that ended in locked gates when it could have taken paved country roads. By the time I placed the tag I didn't have time to go around to the other side or so I thought. When I got home and plotted my tracks, I discovered that at one point I was only a couple of miles from the back side. If I'd been smart enough to look at Google Maps on my phone or to carry paper maps I would have done exactly what you suggested.

I saw a lot of nice roads though. Let me know when you want to go.
