However it does speed the game up.
How long do you have after finding the tag do you have before having to post a new one. For example I ride most weekends and can find better tags instead of ones in my back yard.

I think this is a fun game and can live with what ever is decided.
Thanks Backwoods for bringing this to us!

We have not set a time limit for posting a new tag, either. I was waiting for the game to get moving or for the tag to stall before we voted on these other rules.

As for canned tags:

Pros: Moves game along, if stalled. Moves tag greater distances. Might help move along if tag cannot be placed due to bad weather, illness, etc.

Cons: Not fair to people like me with brand new bikes and NO canned tag pictures made. Also, if the purpose of the game is to get people out riding, does the canned tag defeat that purpose? (Just a question)

As for time limit for new tag posting:

Is anyone interested in setting a time limit? How many only ride on weekends and therefore would have trouble Grabbing and Placing in the same day / weekend?

This game is new enough and our state is rich enough in historic markers, landmarks, famous places, battlefields, etc. that finding a new tag should not be that hard and I don't feel a need to move it several hundred miles each time it jumps, but more than a few blocks. I like quality tags, though with a story or history or some significance. (Even though my first tag was a just a random restaurant to just get the game started!)

I have always wanted to visit the current location that Pappy posted, but don't know if my butt would hold for a round trip that long!!!

Everyone is different. I for example live in Madison MS ( central MS) so a trip to anywhere in MS and back home is easily done in a day. So a state wide tag is great for me. For others a 100 mile radius is a good number and day ride.

Several states have different area tag-o rama areas such as north, central, south and others even have several tags going on at a time.
I do know that the current tags have stayed around central MS and I suspect that when it starts to go all over the state it may take longer to find. I also knew that me posting a 3 week old photo would cause discussion. After talking to Backwoods at bike night last night I went ahead and did it. I do not see myself as lazy or cheating because I would have no problem coming up with any number of fun and good ones. I just like the one I did post, we had a great time there and I wondered how long it would take for others to reconize it. Not long I see.

I like the South Florida guidelines.

In reality it does not matter to me. My only problem was learning how to post pictures. I cound have had most of the tags so far if I just new how to post the pic.

I like where you put the current tag. I have wanted to visit there for awhile. I, at this time, am not personally up to long distance solo rides (having a new bike and being a new convert to Dual Sport riding from solely off road riding). But that is just me and it should not hamper the game in anyway. I have a list on my Blackberry of places I'd like to move the tag spread all over the state, if / when I get it again.

So... ummm... what's the ruling??? File photos or not??? Since Backwoods started the game here, I think it's his call, unless he wants to start a poll and give it a week for votes.

I do like the idea of picking up a tag and then riding to a place to place the new tag. This could lead to a MS Tag-O-Rama mascot like the National TOR.

But... At the end of the day, it's all about having fun, so either way is good with me. Just get out and ride.

I like your thinking! And first off like you said I think this belongs to Backwoods. I think that he should be elected as MS TOR, Grand Po-Pa. I think that since he brought this fun diversion / game to us he should have the final say.
So again, thank you Grand po-pa Backwoods. (unoffical for now)
Any other votes?
Hurry up and break that new bike in!

Trophy,
How does the mascot thing work. Is it like geocaching where you actually place something at the tag location and move it to the next. That sounds cool.

I will abide by any decision, I just like the game. A mascot might really add to the fun factor.

A mascot sounds like fun. Does it stay at the tag location? If so, how do we know that someone doesn't walk off with it?

I like the mascot idea and had thought about adding one, if I could find something fitting and get the tag so I could introduce it. If we want to add a mascot, that would solve the file photo problem since no one would have photos of the mascot while placing the tag (At least at first)...

I do not mind helping steer the game, but I do not want to be a dictator over it. The more I have thought about it, I think I would tend to side away from canned tags, but it is not very strong either way.

Should we let this one stand and get an official vote / poll started for a permanent solution in the future?

Heil, Herr Backwoods. Guess you should be riding a BMW.

I say we let this one stand. It is a great spot and has already been taken care of. If we introduce a mascot, no need to vote. Don't have the mascot in the tag photo, it is not tagged and this debate, or "no opinion we don't care" discussion can end and we can get back to the game. Just my .02.

Also, whoever gets this tag should pick the mascot. Remember, it needs to be small enough to hide and durable enough to withstand the elements.

Kinda like this:

Sounds like someone needs to head to ____________, the current tag location, and keep it moving. Once a tag is placed, with a mascot, I'll update the first post of this thread with rules concerning the mascot, etc.

Game On!!!

Anybody have an ADV patch that we could sew on? It would make the mascot way more rugged. Like going from street tires to knobbies...come to think of it, he needs to be a BAMF.

I'm thinking Les Stroud caliber

I'm not that fond of canned tags, primarily because I think it defeats the purpose of the game, which is to get out and ride! Also, in a state as sparsely populated as ours, placing a tag in Tishmingo State Park from a ride I did 2 months ago, might result in the tag staying there a while.

In other words, if you rode to it in an afternoon just to place a tag, somebody else will likely ride there to get it.

As for the mascot, sure, why not. It will get lost. But we could try and keep up with it. What does having a mascot do to the "first to post gets the tag" rule?

Just my $0.02

Oh yeah, while I'm contributing I like a 36 hour time limit.

Read some of the other tag games, such as the "Valley Dual Sport Tag-o-rama" which is the first one I started following on here that used a mascot as the game got moving. Whoever gets the mascot gets the tag, no matter who posts first. Mascots are hidden in pipe, under a brick, in the dirt, behind a tree, etc. and usually work mostly for off road or remote tag locations.

Think I am about to head out for a short sunset ride....

Dont debate the TAG to death

Follow the simple rules, laid out by backwoods. As he sees need, I am sure he will adjust them, as needed.
