Windows XP Two installations of MapSource on same PC
For reasons I won't go into, I want to keep my installation of MetroGuide ver.4.00 and install City Navigator 2009 onto the same PC.
I'm pretty sure that if I try to install CN2009 it will overwrite my earlier version. I know I can rename the relevant directories but I can't work out how to avoid a major clash in the registry. I'm more than happy to fiddle with the registry if that is what it takes but a Google search hasn't provided any hints. Brian.

Yep, it will overwrite it.
Why 2 versions (reply offline if you like) ? If I know the reason then perhaps I can suggest a work around . |

Thanks BurnieM, I was pretty sure that I would see a reply from you. : )
They're both registered copies that I would like to keep separate. As it is, I now have CN2009 running in a Windows XP virtual machine and my old copy on a Windows XP box that I dragged out of retirement.

You can put multiple unlock codes into a single instance of MapSource and use it for loading all your GPSs . |

Are you sure? I have an old version of Metroguide that has better back road, mountain and stream info that I have always kept loaded over the years with multiple versions of CN. I'm running Roadtrip now on my Mac and even when I downloaded the newest version of CN, the old version was still there for use, I had to manually remove it.
I need to convert that sucker and put it on my Mac.

You can have multiple mapsets selectable from a single version of the MapSource viewing and loading program . |

Multiple instances of Mapsource is another story, just can come up with a reason why you would want to, but if you just had to, VMWare would be the way and run multiple copies of winbloze.

Thanks for all the ideas.

You are talking about additional mapsets. You can have multiple mapsets selectable from a single version of the MapSource viewing and loading program Thanks BurnieM, I never thought of it that way and this, You can put multiple unlock codes into a single instance of MapSource and use it for loading all your GPSs. Something else I didn't know. And PhilSpace, I'm running VirtualBox in Mandriva so I'll copy my working snapshot and run one program in each snapshot with both instances running together. Looks like my planned visit to the computer shop is going to be even more useful, I'll need more ram and possibly a heavier duty video card for two instances of Windows! Thank you all for kicking my lazy brain into gear.

Just had a look at the page for Fusion, Windows is even better on the Mac. Certainly has more features than VirtualBox but VB is cheaper, just about describes me. : ) Ver 3 has just been released, I'll have to try it out.
