This thread is great. I love cheap bikes. My current ride is this 01 ninja 250. Only 14k miles on it when I bought it. Paid 700 for it because it hadn't run in 2 years. Cleaned the carbs and adjusted the valves and it runs like a new bike. Even with new tires and fork seals I am still well under 1000$.

Laugh

Some may say I paid too much, but no price is too high for The Flying Eyeball.

(Paid the cash equivalent to a very large bottle of Knob Hill)

She starts on two kicks, runs, rides, and has a clear street title.

What model of bike is "The Flying Eyeball"? I can sorta read Yamaha on the engine case though.
Thanks, Tony

Picked up an '88 Hawk GT today for $300. Cosmetically it's really rough. Busted plastics, ripped seat. Guy selling it thought the tranny was going out. Turns out the chain wear indicator is WAY beyond the Replace Chain reading. The super-loose chain was jumping over teeth on the sprocket.

Spent $65 on a new battery and she fired right up. Purrs sweetly. Time to change all fluids (oil, coolant, brake), order a new chain and sprocket, get some new-to-me plastics and rear turn signals off eBay and give her a good detailing. The tires are even decent and not too old.

Will post pics tomorrow. Ugly right now, but she should clean up nicely. I'm stoked.

I've got a full set of turn signals for a Hawk I've thought about putting up for sale.

My "new" Kawasaki ZZR600

My '86 Nighthawk is gonna cost to much to repair. New fork-seals, new tyres, a new can chain _ tensioner and there's a large hole in the swingarm. Should cost between 500 and 1000 euro's.

So i was looking for another bike and found a '92 Kawasaki ZZR600. Good tyres, good clean mufflers, clean, riding and still good looking. Picked it up last friday and brought it home after a 100 km. The Nighthawk was fun to drive but the ZZR600 is more like a motorcycle.

Next weekend im going to drive about 900 km at "de elfstedentocht". Famous at ice-skatters, a 3 days riding, 3 days of fun.

I like the color-scheme. Paid only 600,- euro's for this beauty.

PM me with a price.

Crappy pic from this AM. You can see the seat is a wreck and there are no rear turn signals. Seat cowl will require major rework as nearly all the tabs are cracked off and half the grommet posts are gone.

My first bike, 1977 Honda CB550K I bought it for $500, sold it unfortunately about 3 years later for $550. Regretted it ever since.

It actually popped up for sale twice but the next owner chopped the tail off, rear fender, changed the seat. Looked like crap but I tried a lowball offer that didn't work.

So I've been hunting for another CB for a while now, finally found this 1971 CB500, I lost the auction but the other buyer didn't complete the transaction so now it's mine! I'll be picking it up within the week.

Just over the limit of this thread $1555

This is my 82 GS850G, bought this one a couple of years ago for a grand with 20k on the clock. I love this bike but don't let anyone tell ya that buying an old bike is cheap no matter how much you pay for it. I've ridden this one about 17k since and in that time i have inspected, repaired or replaced every component on it. I purposly never kept track of how much the restoration costs, I don't want to know. I can tell ya that now that I'm "almost" done I have a bike that I wouldn't hesitate to ride across the country without reservation and it offers something that is unique. Love this bike,

Cheers

That sure makes me smile. A friend of mine that that exact bike(well, not the promo bike - but a yamaha 50 that looked exactly like that) for free back in about 1994. I helped him get it running and he used it as a dirt bike to go riding with the rest of us. I had a 125 yamaha enduro which was a great bike for a 16 year old to play in the pasture. My brother had an absolute beast of a bike - a 400cc 2 stroke Suzuki. Our other buddy had a very nice Suzuki TS185. So, three guys on dirt bikes and one guy on an underpowered 50cc street bike. My favorite memory is of a creek crossing. It was about a foot of water over a foot of mud and a pretty steep bank on the other side. The guy on the 50 (with street tires) tried several times, but just didn't' have enough power to make it through the mud and up the other side. Finally, he backed way up and just pinned it. I also need to mention that for some reason, he hacksaw'd the muffler off right behind the swing arm pivot. So, it was basically a straightpipe with a megaphone end. That bike was more obnoxiously loud than a Harley with straight pipes. So, when I say he pinned it, you gotta imagine this thing coming at the creek in 2nd or 3rd gear revved up to a full 10,000 RPM and just shaking the trees.

I was on the other side of the creek. Because of the steep embankment, I didn't see him actually hit the water. What I did see was him getting airborne off the top of the embankment - feet splayed off the pegs - in a cloud of water, mud, and steam.

Sorry, it's way off topic. But that's what flashed into my mind when I saw that bike.

They don't have to tell me, every bike in my stable (besides my Ducati) is well under $1500, and they have all been pretty darn reliable. 65K mi on my V65, and we went on a SS 1000 with it, two up right after I bought it. It has only needed steering head bearings and a set of tires since then.
