Whoops - forgot the title of the thread. $1200 - almost twice the price of new!

Appreciate the comments.

That Wombat and extra kit is awesome, brings back memories. A seat cover and a bit of elbow grease and you'll be styling.

Wow.
That's a real score with that history and original condition.
I guess it's too late to order a ditty bag!

OK, I was referred to this thread from the Airheads forum. I've actually bought several old BMWs for cheap over the years. My first on this island was this running 1972(?) R75/5 for $1000: I have been running an ad "WANTED; BMW Motorcycles Dead or Alive" on craigslist for a few years. The first score was a now running 1984 R65 for $650 including tow: Then a few months ago I picked up my old 1978 R100RS and two 1975 R90/6 for $1350 towed. The green one fired up after sitting for over 20 years: BUT, the best score of all was this FREE 1971 R60/5 I brought home yesterday! It has some issues; shocks are frozen, seats gone flat, spokes are super crusty, rear fender broken, but it has compression when turned over with the kick starter and cleaned up real nice:

Wow. A free R60 isn't a bad deal at all. That's all gravy, man.

I'll give this ago, after work I drove home picked up a friend and a trailer and took a 45 minute ride to pick up the bike. Has a clean title, runs good but needs the carbs cleaned, all stock and just needs little tlc. Rides good and has good power. Has 26xxx don't know if that's good or not. Now to the pictures...

Some great finds in here. I wish I had more garage space and $$$. The V65 was the first road bike I took out - borrowed from a friend. That Suzuki should give you a few smiles after a good front to back check.

They are surprisingly fast, not quite as fierce as a ZX9 from the same era, but pretty quick. And there's not many around either.

my new ride

just got my winter project, a 1985 vf500f with 14.5K, for $400. most of my projects are single overhead cam hondas from the early seventies, they've all had stuck brakes, bald tires, rusty rims and exhaust, and plugged carbs. as i drove away with my last one, the owner yelled something about "melted wires". omg!

this one is different, thankfully. tires are dated 2008 and appear unused, chain and sprockets are good, solid oem exhaust, all electrics work ok except the rear brake light (adjustment), brakes work and the caliper pistons retract (yippee!), panels are pretty nice, seat has been recovered, has spark.

rinsed/cleaned out the tank, bypassed the faulty fuel pump and relay by running a gravity-fed fuel line, new battery and plugs, and she fired up. unbelievable! charging system checked out fine, so i stuck a plate on and gave her the beans. pulls strong to 11K, idles nicely. handling is very nice, tight and well-balanced. put about 20 miles on her. now she's on the stand, waiting.

PO had painted (most) of the frame red, the footrests blue and the swingarm white. i'll strip her down to the frame and sand/re-paint everything, remove any excess weight (centerstand, evap stuff, oem mirrors, reflectors, etc).

i'll strip and refurb the front/rear suspension, brakes, wheel/head and swingarm bearings, and try to find some steel braided lines for the brake and clutch lines, new fork seals. everything will be disassembled, cleaned, buffed.

the panels are pretty nice, but needs a windscreen.

For the past few years, I've been watching for a good Hodaka, but with a plate - I am in the dualsporting mode and a neighborhood putt would be fun.

So I found a one family - Dad bought new, gave to son as first bike - '73 Wombat 125....just 2 hours up the road. 690 miles, original tires, yada yada.

The shiniest and rustiest parts of the bike. I'm glad it has a "you left your signals on" indicator - cuz those aircraft landing signals would escape me.

Hey Ralph, we need a brake light switch.

Orig sales receipt and registration. It's a Boogie Machine.....

Accessory list

Thx for watching!
Great find!
My first "learner bike" was a 60 something Hodaka 90. A few years ago I found an ACE 100 at an auction and scored it for $200.00. Like a dummy, I later sold it. Would like to have another one.
