A new clutch cable helped a ton, and acceleration was all a beginner needed with about 70 horsepower. Also had to put a little bit of money into spark plugs, oil, and a new rear tire, but the money I put into it still was way under $1500. Sold for $1500 in summer 2008 during the really high gas prices. Put almost 4k miles on it in about 4 months of riding.
I, too, had a Radian as my first bike. Let me tell you, they had nowhere close to 70 HP stock.

Wonderful motorcycle, though. I wish I had more photos handy.

Bought it for $800, put over 10,000 miles on it, put on $200 of tires and sold it for $1000.

Did they detune them from the FJ600? I always thought it was the exact same engine. I can never find published Radian power figures, but I saw 72 horespower for an FJ600 so I figured it was the same. Mine had a slipping clutch the whole time I owned it so I never felt all the horses anyways

A buddy of mine has a Seca II and I know that those engines are also based on the FJ600/Radian engine, but are detuned way low to 61 horespower. all crank figures btw

$1,100, but that was in 1998.

This was in late 2007:

June 2006:

Hell, come to any of the many rallies on http://thegsresources.com and you'll see lots of sub-$1,500 bikes being whipped like rented mules.

Bought this 1984 Honda CB700SC for $1500 a few years ago. One of Honda's most reliable. I dreamed about having one for years, then found it.

Beautiful bike. HATED the way it handled. Sold it a few months later...

650 Nighthawk. First bike that would do above 55MPH...loved that thing. Bought it for $1050, sold 3 years and 18k miles later (49k) for $1200.

1992 Seca II w/20k mi. $450, needed tires, headers are rusted, runs a bit rough.

$300 for Supertrapp exhaust, $27 for new tires to be mounted, $8 a can of SeaFoam... now it runs like a champ.

Here was my latest. 2003 Suzuki katana 750., P.O. took off all the plastic, had it apart and couldnt get the carbs sorted. paid $1300.

got new tires and battery cleaned it up and adjusted everything.

Went from this

To this

I added the lower fairing later, bike ran great. Invested a total of about $1600, sold it for a nice profit.

Most of the bikes I own are cheapys...some WELL under $1500. Still have them all, then some.

First...1980 Kawasaki KZ1000, paid $900 for it. This was my first bike, I rode the piss out of this thing.....and I still take it out once in a while.

Then we got my 1981 Kawasaki KZ440 rat bobber...think I have about $1200 in this, give or take.

Here is my 1975 Honda CB400F....got $1000 in this, classic cafe racer meets broke ass owner....but the intent is there.

2000 Kawasaki ZX6E Ninja....scored this for $1300 with some scuffed (but not busted) plastics.....I like naked, so I just took them off. One of these days I MIGHT change out the headlight and mirrors....but these work so probably not.

Then to finish off, my 1978 Suzuki DR370.....gave $250 for this gem. The lighting didnt work, so I took it all off and slapped a number plate on it. Crazy torque.....its a wheelie monster.

cheapo rides

got my dt2 for $200 and a parts bike for $150. included a box of oem spares and petty bash plate, 21inch from wheel (not pictured), fork brace, etc. merged the bikes then sold the remains for $460. bike has great compression and with +3 on the rear, have been riding the heck out of it everywhere. tops out at maybe 62mph, but have climbed some crazy stuff. 2 weeks ago i fitted some dunlop 606's - nice. i ride mainly class iv roads, a bit of single-track, logging roads, streambeds and some nasty/ledgy stuff too. this old enduro with reasonable seat height (am only 5-6) and seat padding is a nice change from the husky te610e i had for awhile.

a great ride, on it nearly every weekend, still looks great with 6700 miles.

I bought this KLR650 for $1100 and performed a bunch of maintenance and added the rack and boxes.
