I've owned somewhere around 75 motorcycles. With the exception of maybe 2, I bought them all for under $500 each.

Hmm, after finals I'll drag up pics of my bike, bought for $1k.
Of course this is giving me ideas, as I recently met a guy who mentioned having a KZ that he bought a while ago, rode once, and "seized the middle two cylinders." Might see if he still has it, and wants to get rid of it. Of course that begs the question of where to keep it, as my mother WILL throw me out of the house if I bring home another bike. Maybe I should time it until right before I move to TX, and just sort of 'hide' it in back. But the whole thing about me living in an apt, 1 car, 1 bike, no real space to stick extras. Though I will have a trailer after I assemble it this winter.![]() (In school right now, graduating in the spring.)

1991 Suzuki 400 Bandit. Bought in 2000 and paid $1600 which is a hundred dollars over but close enough. It was my first bike and I loved it. Never did anything to it. Never had any problems.
2001 Honda XR400R. Bought in 2008 for $1500. Didn't like the fact that it wasn't set up for the street so I couldn't ride it legally to more worthy areas to have fun with it very often. Also, bought a brand new expensive bike and after a year of ownership I realized that I wasn't having any more fun on it than my bargain basement starter bikes so now I settle somewhere in the middle with modern bikes, but I let someone else absorb half of the bikes value by buying it new...then I buy it from them a couple of years later. Good thread and a very good point to all of us who thought we had to spend 15k on a bike at one time or another. |

1983 VT500 Ascot
Just picked this one up today, found it on Craigs List, paid $600. Runs good, everything there (except the original headlight), charges great, all electrics work. Has new paint on the tank, panels, and fender that isn't half bad. Needs tires and a through cleaning to be a rider, but I'll probably tear the whole thing down and make it my next project.
![]() ![]() I've always like these bikes, tidy little v-twin, water-cooled, shaft drive, nice riding position. This will be my wife's bike to leave up at the cabin in the mountains when I'm done with it. motorcyclefanatic screwed with this post 12-27-2009 at 03:48 PM |

My brother just picked up an '85 Suzuki madura 1200 for a grand. We've got to reseal the side cover and change some fork seals, but its not bad shape. The bike hauls ass too!
