Just picked up this 03 Yamaha FZ1 with 50K miles for $1000. The PO bought it 3 weeks ago put 419 miles on it, crashed and decided riding was not for him. $100 worth of parts and other then some scratches its good to go.

Sorry for the less then great photo.

I bought this 1974 Honda CB550 with 3800 original miles 2 years ago for $800. The bike was purchased by a guy in his 60's brand new and then parked in 1981 and stored in a decent garage, covered until I bought it. All of the original parts were there, the 4 into 4 pipes, the seat looked brand new, gauges had no signs of fading. All of the chrome had oxidized, not rusted, just had a heavy white coating of oxidization on it. I spent at least a few hundred hours polishing every bit if chrome on that bike, I spent about $500 in parts including new tires and a lot of gaskets, cables, grips, filter, some replacement bolts, and an engine cover that was scratched and carb rebuild kits, I painted nothing and after polishing the crap out of everything, the bike looked brand new and ran like it was brand new. I put it on ebay less than a year later and it sold for just about $3700.

That kind of profit is difficult to pass up. I think it would be more difficult to give up a classic bike like that. Had to be a fun ride.

Don't feel bad , that bike is worth a lot more in parts than the $400 you paid for it . If you don't want to spend the money to restore it , you can re-sell it or save it for parts for another project . Those scramblers are sought after and highly valued .

It was a very fun bike, weighed basically the same as my Bandit with about 45 fewer horsepower but it was a fun ride. I'm not the kind of person that can keep something nice like that and not ride it though, I couldn't let it just sit there, yet every time I rode it I experienced guilt for some reason. The guy that bought it is a collector, it's now sitting in a climate controlled garage somewhere in England.

I had a CB 200 in mint condition and also sold it to a collector. It was too nice to ride.

I was alerted to this one by a regional Craigs List watch thread here on ADV. A really clean all original '85 GPz550. Needed a carb cleaning, now it runs beautifully. Just under 12k miles, got it for $1500. We're taking it to Barber next week.
