Cell towers, much like radio towers, broadcast a signal at a certain frequency range. The signals are there, regardless of the presence of the phone or radio receiver. Each antenna has 3 transmitters, transmitting at slightly different frequencies with 120 degrees of coverage each. Put all the towers together, and you end up with a coverage map that looks like "cells", hence the term "cell phone."

Smart phones are IP devices, which is how they discern which packets on the signal are intended for them, and which ones are not. It has nothing to do with the frequency itself, since all carriers work off the same frequency ranges.

However, smart phones are NEVER truly idle. Smart phones, even when untouched, will transmit short bursts of RF EMF/EMR to communicate with the tower. The more apps and widgets you have, the more frequently this is happening. The phone will transmit most frequently when connected to WiFi. This is due to how a WiFi router works as compared to a GSM/CDMA network. Surf the net or sync your email, and you'll see strong steady blasts of RF EMF.

I guess YOU should be conducting one of these studies then. A lot 15-19 year olds ARE getting breast cancer and the cancer's are actually metastasizing exactly where they regularly keep their phones. (Near or at their chests) Coincidence I guess?

It would stand to reason based on this (The more apps and widgets you have, the more frequently this is happening. ) that teenage girls are therefor more likely to have cancer develop due to their choice of storage. Thanks for the cellphone lesson though.

This is off topic for this thread. MORE PICS PLEASE.

I never said they didn't cause cancer, I simply pointed out that your statement on how they worked was flawed. I've been designing RF networks for a very long time, mostly at the satellite level, and am extremely familiar with how RF devices affect the body. I have even participated in a few studies on the subject. The point being that when it comes to phones, receive from the tower is not the problem, but rather transmit from the phone. Unless, of course, you frequently stand within 50ft of a tower.

Obligatory pic. Not on a bike, but preggers and helping build a table to hold an engine stand.

I used to think my wife was the smart one too, until I realized that she couldn't be very smart if she married me.

Me and my wonderful Russian girlfriend spent this last Labor Day Weekend riding all over the mountains on my old Buell. She had never ridden a bike until she met me and now she loves it!
