had my very first problem with me Rangie yesterday! Alternator went south. It had 174k on it since it was the proginal Bosch unit. I found a new one at a buddies Rover repair shop that had been in a car a week before the dumb girl totalled it whilst texting.....anyway, got it free and it only took me twelve minutes to R&R it!

Unless the bearings inside the Alternator were noisy or there was a lot of play in the shaft more than likely it's just the Voltage regulator that went bad. Bosch Alternators are actually really beefy. A few years ago I had an '82 Merc 280 E and the battery light started coming on and I knew the Alternator was the source of the problem. I just happened to have a refurbed one from an Old VW Golf (Different Housing config. but same regulator) that had little use I just pulled the regulator out and swapped it into the Alternator on the Merc. It took <30mins from Diagnosis to finished repair and saved probably $400 or better. After watching Monday nights Top Gear, I had a little Range Rover Lust.

decided to remove the bully bar
Man, what a difference in looks and handling on the old Classic. I have personally always loved the looks of the Classic both with and without the bully bar but like it better without it and around here, one doesn't need a bully bar. Plus, mine was shitty looking because (for those of you that don't know) the things come from the facroty dipped in a plastic to preserve the bar and it was all peely and hacked on mine so the otherwise clean truck looked dirty even after a detail.
here's the after pic, after of course I had to cut it off with a cut off wheel because the PO welded the front receiver hicth to the mounts. Also replaced the headlights which is alsmot impossible with tbe bully bar installed a dn repainted the grille.
