Of course you can now do personal imports of pre-85 Land Rover 110's .... which can be had for short money.

The only real PIA is converting them to LHD but since defenders are pretty much meccano sets anyway ... it isn't that difficult.

So my son just gave me a Father's Day card.

He wrote:
Daddy,

You are as handsome as a Land Rover.

Strong as a wrecking ball.

I love you as much as cotton candy.

Think he summed it up pretty well.

Lr's were the only thing that could handle the outback when I was in Western Australia. When I came home could have bought a new SWB for 2500.00. That prob gives you an Idea of how long ago that has been.

Silly question here but you can get LHD landies military/ngo spec pretty easy from several sources, why not try those. We have a role reversal over here jeeps [wranglars, saharas ect] are dirt cheap as no one can run the things with their huge engines.

toyota troop carriers are pretty much the thing now for oz and africa, there is an ozzie saying if you wwant to the outback drive a landy if you want to come back drive a toyota.
For those of you looking for a serious offroad/touring vehicle, the german army is apparently redoing their trucks and you can get a unimog 1300L[with around 30k on teh clock], either ambulance or flatbed for around 12k euros, Man KAts are not far above that as well.

Lately, 95-97 Defenders have caught my eye. Mainly as an alternative to a Rubicon. Man, they really seem to hold their value.(I've been looking at 90's). Trying to educate myself. What's it like to live with one of these? I'm concerned about parts, reliability and how far is too far for a highway road trip?

Go with the later bosch engine .... trade out the airbag suspension for really shocks and springs. Regular maintenance is key.

A D110 in diesel would be my dream vehicle.

Not sure why, but I love the damn things.

Agreed. The proper saying goes, and this comes straight from an African bush driver, "Both the Land Cruiser and Land Rover will get you there, but the Land Rover won't need repairs to get you home." Seriously, it's been my understanding that the main reason behind Toyota stronghold... Land Rover rigs just cost a lot more to bring in and to buy.

Btw, sweet 110! I like your dog too. Looks like a great travel buddy.
