Although it did definitely have its share of typical Land Rover leaks, glitches, and gotcha's, it also gave me many many miles of fun and adventure.

Not bad in the snow either...

I sold it for a VW Touareg in 2004, which has also been an amazing vehicle. Light years ahead of the LR in power and handling (310HP 6sp tip paddle shift cayenne turbo sway bars) and comfort. Obviously not nearly the axle articulation of the LR, but full locking diffs and air suspension get through most of the same obstacles albeit with a slightly different style.

Now it's time to replace the TReg, wondering if I should go back to a LR, maybe an LR4...

My 2003 Disco II either needs some major repairs or a replacement so I'm going through the same thought processes that you are too.

Alas, our local Land Rover dealer just closed suddenly with a bit of a local scandal unfolding (accusations of customers paying for their vehicles at the dealership with the monies never reaching the finance companies, etc., etc. )

We've had around 10 inches of snow here... which for us may as well be the apocalypse! So far, have rescued 2 people, 7 cars... and a bread truck!

Did that include any tree hugging anti-4x4 Ramblers types?

Always wanted to find one of those folks to pull out of the snow ...

Have to be the Defender.....

As an aside I came across a forum thread last night stating that the easiest way to get at the heads of a TD Disco3 was to lift the body work off the chassis...

Gone are the days of 'field repairs' with those

I'll take the defender every time!

(Except maybe in the snow in town, when airtight doors and windows and decent heating may prove more attractive and give the orange one the advantage! )
