In terms of price of the older landies, it seems you can find them for 3 to 5k sterling... spend a couple grand tidying up, and then maybe another thousand to get it here... So for 10 to 15k USD you could have a landy that wasn't in too bad shape...
Well, now you put it like that it makes more sense than it did back then! What was I thinking?!

Thanks for the info re: the Wolfs too - I hadn't realised it was only those that were going to a single source. Maybe there's hope yet...I'll be heading back over in a few months, might have to bring my test drive boots with me!

I am not shy to fixing things, so having to do some maintenance doesn't worry me.

So is what I have heard correct? Am I completely crazy? Have I been watching too much Top Gear?

There is no way in hell I am going to buy a mini van So I figure the size of this thing is perfect and will be able to do camping/road trips with the fam as an added bonus.

Any advice appreciated.
Nothing is bullet proof..........

Thats a 4.2L AJV8 S/C........

Have one on the floor right now with rod shaped holes in the block.....

But, ya, they are pretty good over all. The product has steadily improved over the years.

There are some minor issues with the LR3's. Lower ball joints, tie rods(inner) racks to a lesser extent, lower control arm rear bushings, EAS compressors, and some wiring issues if you are in a snowy area that uses salt. The main body wiring harness runs under the step plates, water and salt/dirt can collect is there and cause all sorts of havoc with the wiring, namely, the NON WATER TIGHT splices in the harness. Fucking British engineers.....Have some issues with oil leaks from the engine as well, the main bearing carrier leaks on some, means pull the engine to reseal....if its leaking and off warranty, expect 28hrs labor and about 800 in parts to fix...

Poke around DiscoWeb.org, D-90.com, or Expedition Portal.com --- one of those three sites (most likely D-web) will round up a mechanic for you.
