What makes you think that, are restomods now illegal? In Canada you can import anything over 15 yrs old, in the US I believe it is 25yrs, so this would be fine in the US. As a matter of fact, the Veh. was done and registered in the states.

Im re doing the leaf springs right now because the fall apart and the local guy in my country(uruguay) is going to make the leaf springs out o 3/16 material stead o 5.5 mm the is wath the stock are except the main leaf the will be same us stock to avoid problems .

This 109 is diesel 2.3 , all original except wire harness very simple under the hood ,does 12km per liter and work really good for me for few reasons .
Anual registration is none because o the age ,insurance $200 a year,after this expence on the leaf springs and new ball joints and steering box rebuilt will last another 50 years
Everyone looks a it in the summer went all the tourist show up.

And the best one is the my Dad enjoy it went locals go look for him to take a new super duper 4x4 truck the go stuck on the swamp o mud because the tourist wants to show his girlfriend o wife his new $80k truck ( He charges in Johnny walker black label for his service )

I once drove in a bit to far to the right lifting the carport and dropping it down so i couldn't back it out until i let down the tires only did it once

There isn't a single part of that made in 1984, except maybe the VIN plate, chassis is 1999 or later. If you look at the rear crossmember, the big hole to the right of the towing hitch holes didn't appear till the TD5 was released.

I'm not sure what the new ones are like but the TD5's we used to have at work had swivel housings although of a different design to the ones on my 1970 SWB

The Frames / Chassis hasn't changed that much since 1984.
If your 1984 Frame has rusted / holes in it, just buy a new galvanized one. You can choose which Motor mounts, etc.
Sure, there are different rear crossmembers, but they all fit.

Nah nothing to do with restomod or kit title issues.

If it was titled on the '84 chassis it's essentially a VIN swapped truck. You think you can march that little beauty into an inspection/emissions station and tell everyone it's a 1984? They took an '84 chassis and built a 2011 truck on top of it using the '84 VIN. The bureaucracy may be stupid but it ain't that stupid.

Some states don't have inspections and many counties are emissions testing free. But the TD5 isn't a legal motor in the USA. I'm not saying you can't get away with it...there's always the "off road use only" loophole. But hooo boy buyer beware before they shell out $80k or whatever for that truck.

There's a reason it's up in Canada for sale.

Which shop built it and in which state did they register it?

There's a thread over on D90.com about a guy out in CA in litigation right now for a similar kind of shenanigan.

that makes me laugh, a 2.5liter 5 cylinder diesl is illegal but you guys in teh USA can have a 6.8 liter (or what ever) petrol V8, which is the most fuel efficient
