I agree with Neduro (who is still my hero!). Ebay is loaded with 2004 Discos with low miles for around $7. Jeep Liberty is the worst vehicle in North America according to JD Powers, fyi. I got one as a rental once and I agree.

I might, MIGHT be able to be persuaded to sell my 95 Classic, if one was seriously interested. Been thinking about early Ford Broncos lately.

I had a Gen 1 Disco and hated, hated, hated it. Piss poor fuel economy and uncomfortable ergonomics. Also pricey to fix when it broke, which was often. I accept 15mpg out of a forty year old truck like a Series IIa, but a daily driver should do better.

Mine is the gen2. TD5 Auto, I'm still on the first tank but it looks like it should be getting around 20mpg and it's all been around town. Not great, but it does go offroad most days to my workshop which is on a farm and Sometimes I pull a small trailer too.

The hood and roof were repainted due to the truck being from FL. They were pretty sun faded. The color is original though. Its the 1995 verson of BRG. The picture doesn't show the color very well.

Unfortunately we aren't able to get the diesels here in the US. There are so many cool Euro diesels its a shame.

Trying to avoid the passé jeep liberty or the pedestrian Tacoma.

Looking at a 02 Disco or that aforementioned hunk of '60s aluminum that will take all me monies.

Funny I almost bought an 02 Disco new for 34k, yet today I can pick up the same rig for around 7k
Wow they must be very reliable and economical trucks to run.

You don't want a 2002. They don't have a CDL (center differential lock) among other known issues.

If you're looking at DIIs, 2004 is the only year you should be considering.

Re the 2002 and no CDL - not exactly true but takes some working out, some g/boxes have the internals, others don't. Our 2002 does have CDL (australia)

the the 2004 DII - YES totally agree our first was a 2004

My first choice was an 04 but after reading the rover forums I heard the 4.6
had problems with the oil pump and really bad gas mileage even by rover standards.
I'd only be using the truck on weekends for light family off roading and something to tinker with.
The 04 you say? Hmmm

The oil pump issue was worked out by 2004 and only effects a certain VIN range between 2002-2003

4.6 will get slightly better gas mileage than the 3.9 or 4.0. But don't expect much more than 15 mpg in mixed driving. 16-18 highway isn't uncommon if you keep it at 65 or below.
