Few details I know, but I have not really been able to talk to owner yet and would like to respect their privacy.

Found a nice clean local 1995 911 Carrera (993) with 80k miles that I pick up on Friday... black on black, 2wd, a few options like limited slip diff, heated leather, sunroof and a 6 speed manual. Narrow body, no wrecks, non smoker, nice paint, no rust, no leaks, inspection checks out, new tires, new brakes, new fluids... here's some quick pics:

Congratulations! And don't let the Rennlisters talk you into removing the towel rack.

haha... those used to bug me, but I definitely need to keep it if I keep it stock looking... one friend is trying to get me to put a ducktail on it which would get rid of that and the 993 classic appearance... exterior will remain stock for now... the prior owner has a sirius antenna just under it that I need to remove, as well as the cd changer in the front trunk taking up valuable space...

They belong on '73 RSs. What I like about the '95s (I have a '96) is that it's a bit easier to immobilize the immobilizer than in the later year cars. |

The 1995 993s have an "OBD 1" system (on board diagnostics). The '96 - '98 cars are OBD II, with the '96s having a different ECU than the '95s, and the '97's and 98s having a different ECU than the '96s. Bill Verburg on the Rennlist has worked out (or found) a fairly easy way to bypass the immobilizer. I will try to find the thread over the weekend, and link it here. On the '96 cars you need to install the later ECU (at least I think it's the ECU) and then replace a chip. It's pretty expensive. Steve Weiner in Portland provides this service. Some '95s don't have the immobilizer; it was an option that year. |

R.J.: here's Bill's thread:
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...e-done-ha.html But, truth be told, I don't worry much about the immobilizer anymore. I keep fresh batteries in the remotes, have a spare DME relay in the car, and take a backup key on trips. It's sort of like not worrying about the EWS ring on your Hexhead BMW.
