I got laid more when I had the 914 because I had it when I was in college (tremendous leg room on the passenger side, too ) but the Carrera was the 900 lb. gorilla of the three as far as driveability is concerned.

Hmmm.

Oh, it was the leg room, eh? Not the age?

I've owned a 914 2.0. Not particularly quick, but super nice in transitions and a lot of fun to drive. I've driven a Carrera, but didn't own it. Just a few 135 mph freeway jaunts in California! It was so quick it felt like a motorcycle accelerating, but there's a certain joy in driving where speed has to be worked for, and conserved (like in the 914), and isn't just available at the press of a pedal. Maybe the same reason I prefer lightweight mid-size bikes to big-engined heavyweights.

Despite how those photos looked, they won it in 2007, and in 2008 they took 9 out of the top 10 places with a Toyota at #7. So your photos mean nothing.

They are a cool vehicle, but if I was in the market for something of that type, I'd still rather have a Touareg with the TDI V10.

So... my photos mean nothing, huh?

You apparently don't know the full Story.

A buddy of mine was there as a reporter. You can see his Defender recovering a Cayenne in one of the pics.

Many stages were cancelled - especially in Mongolia - when the terrain was too difficult for the Porsches.

Lots of accidents, lots of breakdowns that were mentioned nowhere.
This story caused an outrage in the european offroad scene.

The Cayennes performed well in High speed, moderate terrain. No question.

If they had to go the complete, original route ... only a handful would have survived. Of course, the Rallye was changed to make it more SUV friendly.

However, this Rallye 911 outpaced many Cayennes and even took the lead. But it's only a private team without Factory support. So they had to give up... I love those Rallye 911

More Pics here.

I recall seeing something somewhere that the Touareg was in the top five in the JD Power customer dissatisfaction for a bit. I don't know if that was true of the Cayenne as well.

FWIW, If I was ever in the market for a car like a Cayenne or a Panamera, they'd be near the top of MY list. Porsche makes great cars. For now, my 911SC and 968 Cab suffice. (I also have an ML320 for trailer/SUV duty)

I read somewhere that VW isn't going to renew it for the next model cycle.
