I have also seen one, very nicely done 914 with a 928 engine swap on the web. Someone spent some serious coin on it and it looked it too.

coulda bought one like this [81] for $5k when i was stationed in florida in 1984.

my friends were all buyin 81 sirroco S packages.

would have been a nice oneupsmanship move.

ended up in a toyo pickup instead. wrapped it round a tree.

My first Porsche. Same color, same wheels. Mine was an '82. I think it is a totally under appreciated car. The only real downside was the lack of power. The car handled and drove wonderfully, had tons of storage, great fuel mileage, looked good (subjective, yes), and was dead reliable.

Had the Audi 100 industrial engine. Cast iron block with Al head. Totally under stressed. Mine had over 300k miles on it when I sold it. Parts are still available relatively easy and cheap (heavy VW influence). I'd say that the only part that is really expensive to repair is the fuel distributor. But they are really reliable if you use top tier fuels and replace the fuel filter at regular intervals.

The only problem today would be to find one that has not been run into the ground.

These guys does some pretty good work.

The 928 motor allows them to remain eligible for PCA events. Not nearly as nice a motor for the swap unless that's important.

You know that was supposed to be a VW. VW had two projects running and decided to kill the rear drive car in favor of the Scirroco. Porsche bought the rights to the car to replace the 914.

True, but Porsche designed it for VW. When VW shelved it, they bought it back. The 911 faithful hate the 924 (and the 914), but they really are good cars when you can find them in good shape.

yeah. but when you slam the door of an 81 sirroco it goes 'fwop' and when you slam the door of an 81 924 it goes 'fwump'.

Couple of past company cars.

Had a few Boxsters as well and really enjoyed them. I don't understand why they get a bad rap. They're a lot of fun to drive.

1997 911 cab.

1991 911 coupe 2wd.
