I love driving my 74 Carrera, NO power anything. After driving it, its hard to enjoy newer cars. No soul, cant hardly do your own work, hell cant see the motors anymore. Dont get me wrong, the technology is amazing, but its also good to see where it came from.

The Transsiberian Rally was one big PR event.
Trails too muddy? Stage cancelled. Lot of problems and lots of towing needed. Of course you don't see that in the official videos.
A friend of mine was following the TransSiberia as a Journalist w. his Defender.
They did pretty good on the fast gravel roads, though :-)

One of the best Porsches was an old Rallye Paris Dakar 911. Rear wheel drive.

I've seen the "rally" version of the Cayenne on 280. The guy that owns the GT also owns a couple of them--he uses them to cart the kids and his race car around. He's pretty happy with it and I have to say, it's more comfy than the RS4 and it goes pretty well too.

What is 280 and do you have a link?

I'd like to love the Cayenne. I've owned three Porsches and two Land Rovers, but one thing that appeals to me about the Rover (including the Range Rover) is that they can still be working/police/military vehicles. I haven't seen that yet with the Cayenne.

And, yes, I've seen the Transsiberian Rally. Thanks for pointing that out, but it seems like a one-off event and a "special edition" vehicle that wasn't that well received.

I think Rover's, especially the newer ones, seem to have a lot of problems. I really like the older ones--before they went 'soft' But this isn't the Rover thread.

I agree with you on the TR.

I like the Cayenne, but there's no way I could love it. It is cool for what it is, but it, like most modern cars lack soul. I haven't gotten to drive the new ones yet, and I would like to. I've heard a lot of raving about the S, not as much about the Turbo. For what it is though, I'd rather just have the TDI in the T-reg... but I guess I'm repeating myself.

As far as police vehicles, that doesn't mean much to me. Around here they all drive Tahoes and F-250s.

T2 Production class is pretty close to a showroom car/truck. They made a big push to have the Anorak in the background of all of the interviews with the Factory drivers. There will be a T2 Anorak for 2011, too.

I don't think VW/Porsche will want to split the coverage between the two brands. VW is putting some hurt on Mitsubishi. T2 doesn't get much coverage though. If someone was to bring a 911, I'm sure it would get some coverage but unless it finishes, it would be a waste of money. Team-wise as well as marketing-wise. The Cayanne, I think it's too close to the Touareg.

Back to Porsche:

Plenty of videos and pictures out there.

Here is just one.

Those that think the Cayenne lacks soul have not spent any time REALLY driving one. Driving around the block does not count. Until you clear you mind of what you THINK you know about SUVs you will never get to appreciate what a Cayenne can REALLY do!!

Yup. The Texas Highway Patrol and the Border Patrol all have nasty Tahoes.

Dunno if the new Range Rover cop vehicles have basic interiors or not; I know that when Jaguar offered cop cars in Great Britain they had more basic interiors.

And that appeals to me. More basic - and presumably more rugged - fittings.

Oh well ... Porsche even delivers their race cars with leather interiors. Things change.

There used to be several versions of 911 cop cars years ago but I don't know if Porsche builds them now or not. I remember seeing a 911T Targa with flashing lights at a show when I was a kid.

Interesting ... thanks!

I won't even ask about proper bull bars and a winch mount.

ADDED/then edited:

The silver one is evidently a Russian cop vehicle; I saw it on a story about Bulgaria ordering 32 Cayenne ambulances. Pretty wild!

My neighbor has a 97 Twin Turbo 911 and a Cayenne S with a tow hitch. He hardly ever drives the 911. I hate him.

Do they have kids? I think that's the main reason I've seen people drive a Cayanne over a 911. Although, now they're shifting towards the Panamera.
