For the NM and southewest regional viewers, Moto Authority in ABQ has a 2009 XR1200 for sale for $8900. Price seems a bit high, but I bet you could work with the guy.

No affiliation, but the owner is a great guy and a local racer.

Yeah, I'm over there too. Lot's of good info, but figure diversifying data sources is never a bad idea...

Put 200 miles on one of these. REALLY wanted to like it...the foot position sent me limping for ibuprofen!

Ahhh sorry, haven't visited this thread for a while... lets see what I can remember:

- two bad valve seals caused >1qt/1k oil consumption
- scored front discs @ 5k
- steel oil return line cracked at weld
- broken motor mount
- leaking starter gasket - spewed oil ruining rear brake pads
- exhaust leak(s)
- few more oil leaks here and there to "Dutch Boy"
- chrome flaked off one shock
- tankbag zipper blew apart
- multiple blown headlights

Yeah... I got a Lemon, and just missed the cut-off points to lemon law it.

Tank bags

I just picked up a 2010 XR1200 (fantastic bike so far) and I see that the HD OEM tank bags have discontinued.

What have you guys been using?

You see a good OEM tank or tailbag every now and then on eBay. I was lucky enough to snag one tank and two tail bags. ;) Fit and look great.

Since it's been discontinued, any idea on if dealers are budging on price at all?

I see a lot of used bikes still at 10K which seems awfully high.

haters aside, this bike is great and miles ahead of harley- davidson mythological oil leaking/burning, relics. this is a stout fast, smile inducing, tire shredding, peg scraping animal.
it begs to be flogged hard, versus my CB750 which just want to be ridden.
i haven't had issue, but i did open the fuel tank and didn't close it properly, and it leaked on my leg and swing arm.
but all is good now.

Question

Was the bike discontinued completely or just in the U.S.?

I can't speak for the world over, but it is not on the Great Britain or Italian websites

Yeah... I got a Lemon, and just missed the cut-off points to lemon law it.

Seriously, you blew apart a tank bag zipper and consider that part of a lemon law failure?

And you're bitching about chrome flaking off a shock absorber?

Nope, lemon law stuff would have been the more serious stuff up in the top 2/3s of the list... I pointed out the shock chrome and they said its a warranty item, I'll take it. Enjoy your Harley!
