I just did 2600 miles with the KTM bag.
Very solid and useful. It came with a rainfly to cover the bag and it worked well in the storm i went through.

Tank Bags.
Nice lookin bike EZ300. Bet you can carry a heap of gear in those cases.
Ive used the KTM and TT tank bags. Both about the same $$$, both have rain covers which work really well but the TT has a neat zipper around the base that lets you remove the bag in 5 seconds without having to put the 3 straps back on. This is about the only + between the two IMO. Cheers Pete

KTM bag is a gem. Anything from Wolfman is a winner too

KTM bag is too wide for off road. Any loads in it and it wallows all over. Expanded it doesn't let you get up on the tanks. It's solid kit though, zips off the base and is fairly water resistant. Like noted above, comes with a rain cover. I have one and use it but I would try elsewhere. The new tankbag from Giant Loop looks good. Waterproof and narrow. Kinda like the Wolfman Expedition but with a zipper top.

My KTM bag has a zipper around the base too. I can easily remove the entire bag when I run into a diner or anywhere I can't watch my bike. The straps do not have to come off.

My personal favorite:
http://www.advmachines.com/product_p/adv_m218.htm fits between the filler caps very well, does not extend too far back so when standing it does not interfere as much as the KTM bag. rain cover is extra, however the cordura is slightly resistant to water, its the seems that leak. the black expedition large is another option that fits well and is mostly water proof. next option, is this product: http://www.giantloopmoto.com/collect...dango-tank-bag these are some top shelf quality built products. I believe more intended for the hyperlite crowd, but very nice "in between" size. slightly larger than the Wolfman expedition "small" and the explorer light

Tried the KTM bag - gets in the way when standing up. Check out the Explorer.

I've got the KTM bag. Works well enough, and none of my stuff has gotten wet with the rain cover on.
I do have two gripes though- 1) The funky angled shape (short at the front, deeper at the back) sometimes makes it difficult to carry much stuff (or oddly-shaped stuff) in it. I know, I know, that's why I have a rack, but when trying to put a pair of sandals, a sweatshirt and a few snacks in the bag, it gets a bit unwieldy. Granted, that's a function of the design/shape of the bike, but there it is... 2) The expansion capability is nice, but it really doesn't like to be half-full. Expanded, anything less than fully stuffed, and the bag gets wobbly and unstable. Not nice. I suppose for a trip I could cut some polycarbonate to give it some structure, but for general running errands, it can be a bit cludgy. That being said though, I'm going to stick with it. It's like the Aerostich suit- not perfect, but under most circumstances, it works well enough to make up for the few flaws. G

Wolfman Explorer Lite
The right size for off road and still being able to take more than your wallet. Holds a couple of good meals, trail mix, extra water, irons, spare tube, and extra maps without a problem. I can get to both gas caps without moving it. The rain cover is a few bucks, but I've never used it. Been in total downpours and 2 full days of rain in Baja and nothing got wet inside. My bag is 2 years old. The rear straps are connected to the frame roughly forward of the tool box, cross underneath the seat, then poke out both sides of the seat near the Dakar guys head, where they clip into the tank bag. I've talked to guys who now wish they got the Explorer lite, instead of the Explorer.

Noob necro bump.....I've been searching all over for a tank bag that does all this:
Fits the 990 well Easy zip on/off with base straps that do not damage paintwork Expandable but with inner stiffener on lower walls Will convert to ruckack AND has a built in stowaway helmet carrier that you can roll out on road trips when off the bike. Only multifunction one I found was an Icon Urban but it's magnetic ..... Looked at Wolfman stuff, Famsa, KTM, Fandango Is there anything else out there? Thanks
