All of this is 20 to 40 miles South of I-70 from Salina to the Colorado border, The Smokey hills River Trail was the I-70 0f the day, it was allso known as the Butterfeild Overland Despatch Stage Route to Denver.

Tallboy is ALMOST right. There's NOTHING quiet about the Great Plains! The wind is your constant companion, whether sun or moon, rain or snow; there's always the wind.

When there is NO wind, something's coming.

I like that we're talking about the Great Plains. I make it a point to say that's where I'm from. People think the states between the Ohio valley and the Rocky Mountains is called the Mid West. Sorry, the Mid West stops at the Missouri river.

I've driven across several times and alway look back wistfully at what I've missed and how infrequently I've been there....perhaps the book will fire me up and get me back out there and away from the ocean and latte bars......it better be good if I'm going to get any of my local friends to come along, however....Bruce
