I must admit that I am (have been) one of those who crossed the plains en route to somewhere else. My eyes have been opened ... thanks.
Here's a few that I managed to get along the way......

Old Towns

As I rode through Western Nebraska this weekend and enjoyed all the sights and sounds. I also came across some forgotten towns. It's hard to imagine that these towns were once vibrant and full of life. So I got to thinking with this being Memorial Day Weekend, we should remember those towns that were the backbone of what is now this great country also.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
Pat

A couple from the Loess Hills, looking west towards the Missouri River and Nebraska.

Saturday, I finally ran down to Scott State Park to check it out. Neat little lake I'll have to get back to when it's not so crowded - being the only state park in the far western part of Kansas, it was jam packed with families for the holiday weekend. Ugh.

Anyway - I also ran out to Monument Rocks for the first time. Very neat formation out in the middle of the prairie.

Dropping into the Smoky Hill River valley was very impressive.

Thumb Corn Belt..........

Nice to see a few corn pictures once in a while...

Looks like Jack had his gps tracking down I-80 thru Omaha and west thru Lincoln on the Eastern Edge of the Great Plains. Hard to really get the feel of the plains looking thru the wing window of a cage on the slab.

Having traveled throughout the Great Plains for many years its hard to recollect seeing much corn. In fact, the corn you will see is being grown on the eastern edge of the region. Further to the East, in states like Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota is where you might go to see the real Corn Country.

The formations are at the bottom of the hill the bigger one is on the left side of the road or to the south about a hundred yards, the smaller is on the right side.
