Normally you don't burn native grass this early however, I needed to burn an old CRP field in order to drill some forbs in to field. The forbs are being introduced to make the field more like a native prairie and improve the habitat for wildlife.

There were taken March 5, 2011 in Linn County, KS.

the native indian shots i take to heart,,,, i have read ;" bury my heart at wounded knee: and suchlike.........

an incredible race in my eyes,, as is the original inhabitants of oz.......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forb

"Forbs are herbaceous flowering plants that are not graminoids (grasses, sedges and rushes). The term is frequently used in biology and in vegetation ecology, especially in relation to grasslands. Forbs represent a guild of plant species with broadly similar growth form, which in ecology is often more important than taxonomic relationship.

In addition to its use in ecological studies, the term forb may also be used for subdividing popular guides to the wildflowers of a region, together with other categories such as ferns, grasses, shrubs and trees. This approach is not followed in formal regional floras, which are usually organised taxonomically.
Some examples of forbs are clover, sunflower and milkweed."

The more diverse the fields the better they are for wildlife.

My field was a crop field that was enrolled in the CRP program and planted in native grasses. Adding the forbs will make the old crop field more like a native pasture and improved the habitat for wildlife especially the birds.
