http://www.fallert-mdesign.de/4.html & http://www.fallert.com/ maybe?

I've not dug into this at all yet, but have previously heard murmurs of desmodromic airehads in general. Still, if I start looking into it right now I just know I'll never get to sleep... I mean, just look at what comes up from a 30 second search...

WOW

http://thetrxproject.blogspot.co.uk/...-prototyp.html

http://www.motorcyclistcafe.com/forums/showthread.php?5963-BMW-R1-desmo!

R1 Project 1989-1992 The R1-research team: Georg Emmersberger (Desmodromics), Heinz Hege and Ralf Lewien. Tech specs: Performance: 135 -140 Hp (100 - 103 KW). max rpm 11.000. Engine: 4-stroke two-cyl. boxer, liquid cooled. Four valves per cyl., DOHC DESMODROMIC.
Bore-stroke: 98 x 66 mm. 996 ccm. Bosch Fuel injection; electronic ignition, 6 gear, cardan. Dry weight 165 kg. Only 4 prototypes were made. Only one of them is ridable.

And for the assistance of any that don't get desmo valvetrains

http://straightspeed.wordpress.com/2011/06/20/ducati-desmodromic-singles/

"The principle of mechanically ‘forcing’ the valve to close, and not relying totally on a valve-spring, was first conceived in the late 1800s, but was not put into practical use until the 1930s. This mechanical valve system became known as “desmodromics,” which is Greek for desmos, meaning ‘controlled,’ and dromos, meaning ‘course.’"

For my info (A/B)

Had to look up "GP2".

Looks like a great recipe for good, close racing.

Ah yes, sorry :-) It did occur to me to link to a description of the formula, but I guess I thought anyone that wanted to know would find out. And you did :-) Sort of Indy Lights? For what its worth, to my mind there are too many junior formulae, but then I was 'brought up' on the previous F2, with generally the better drivers* pitched against each other in a variety of different chassis, engines & tyre/ires combinations. But then if you ended up in the wrong combination you'd had it for the year unless you swapped across to the optimum set, so a bit like the Moto3 packages are turning out this year?

GP2 offers equality of chassis, engines & tyres so it ought to level out the field, but the cream always rises. I remember seeing both Zanardi & JP Montoya in F3000 and they just walked away from competitors running the same kit. Overall though I've always enjoyed club racing and the lower formulae more, as there's less money at stake, so more risks are taken, and it's all a bit more fun you know?

* Or at least those with budget, which is not always the same. I guess one of the benefits of a spread of junior formulae (GP2/F2/Renault 2.5/Renault 3.5 etc) is that it allows individuals to stand out a bit more in the separate fields.

So - it's called The Greenwood, and is not a 3 wheeler after all...

Originally built & piloted by Owen Greenwood, passengered by Terry Fairbrother.
