I had never been on the bypass, so was unprepared for the views and the deactivation's! Running a reasonable clip I was nearly caught out by a monster deactivation that looked fairly recent. It was about 4 feet deep and about 8 feet wide at the top. Fortunately it had rained recently so the deactivation was colored more darkly than the rest of the road. I hit the brakes as soon as I saw the darker patch! The views were... well, take a look:

Finally made it down to the Myra station side of the canyon which then lead me down the Myra FSR and out to Gallaghers Canyon. A leisurely drive through the orchards of East Kelowna and home.

All and all, an awesome afternoon of riding. Hopefully worthy of my first ride report!

PS: GPS Track of my ride if anyone cares: kvr_sept_09.gpx

Thanks for the story and the links. I would have liked to have added that leg to my trip a few weeks ago.

Hey RedPillar,

No worries! It was a great ride! If your ever out here again shoot me a PM and I will join you for a ride...

It came to my attention that the ride report was broken from post 5 to post 16. I fixed the issue. NEVER USE MS WORD to copy and paste from!

Whatever it is you do with a camera, you do it well. Awesome pics!

For those of us living in North America who haven't yet acquired the means to do the ridiculously great rides to such exotic locations as Mongolia or the 'Stans, and so forth, British Columbia serves as a fabulous "alternative". One could spend a year in BC exploring its roads and scenery and still have left some part of that great province worthy of a two-wheeled visit.

Thanks for this RR. You have a great eye for the pretty, although I suspect you would agree that BC offers stunning amounts of gorgeous vistas. Here's hoping you have the means and the opportunity and the willingness to share further motorcycling adventures cuz it's inspiring to us lurkers, eh!

, etc.

Hey Cozen,

Thanks for the kind words! BC is an unbelievable place to ride! I just started dirt riding this year, been lurking on ADV for many years now. There are plenty of people on here who have inspired me to get out there and do it.

The plan is to do more rides next year with my Dad. I am on him constantly to get a bike and after reading this report and telling him about my Kootenay plan, I think he is ready to jump in! Hopefully I'll have a helmet cam setup for next year as well. There are not a lot of ADV style videos out there for this neck of the world and I'm hoping to change that!

Just found this report, thanks for posting. It's now on my must ride list for this year as it's in my backyard.

Hi AMK,

The link is active, but you need to right click and "Save As". If you simply click the link it won't download properly, because the .kml extension is usually not setup in the mime types on Windows machines. I did verify the file is still there though. Since it is hosted on my personal web server, it will be there as long as forever.

Brimstone - Excellent! Great memories as I know the area well. I have long time friends in both Summerland and Penticton and have ridden the valley many times. I love camping in the fruit orchards that allow it. I'll be through this summer so we must tip a glass.

Brimstone, excellent report with even more excellent photos. I'm coming up your way later this year and going to add Naramata to my list.

Last year I was all around Lake Gallagher. BTW great pub "Ye Olde Welcome Inn".
