2009 vs. 2010 BMW F800GS - What is the difference? Anything besides Color?

Hello All,

On the verge of selling my '00 R1150gs to buy a new F800gs and seeing 2009 and 2010 models available locally. Besides color (I don't care much about the color) does anyone know of a listing of the specific tweaks and changes from '09 to '10 (if any). Can't find anything on the BMW site of course and didn't' find anything here. Thanks

Good Question, I am looking for that answer also. My dealer has only a 2009 F800GS demo bike for sale. It has 3,100 miles on it and they are discounting it by $1,900. So the out the door price with tax, title, and License is $14,990 ($12,670 with out TTL). They added a bunch of options on it. It has ABS, computer, and heated grips.

1. Comes with Street and Dirt tires
2. Skid Plate
3. Had Guards
4. Crash Bars
5. BMW top case (it is the one that expands for larger items if you need it)
6. Center Stand
7. Touring windscreen

What do you guys think? Is it a good deal? Or should I wait for 2010 models.

Couple of comparable (from the web, so no arm twisting and obviously before title, tax, and the typical dealer shenanigans)

2010 F800GS Orange for $13,395 with OBC, ABS, Heated grips, adn the fancy white turn indicators. See http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/mac...ls.asp?ID=1750

2010 F800GS White for $13,570 - same as above plus center stand but sans white indicators. See http://www.bmwofdenver.com/pre_owned...h=1397104&nv=y

Don't know the specs on the installed options of the used bike you are looking at, but if they are nice/desirable from your perspective it might be a fair deal (at least in the realm of BMW Motorcycles) - although you can get a "new" 2010 bike for less... might be a good negotiating point.

When buying from a dealer you have to pay taxes, title, and license. Just know way around it. This is the shops demo bike so all of the parts listed are BMW parts that come with a warranty along with the bike. The warranty starts when I purchase the bike since it was a demo so the I get 36 months from the time of purchase and 39,100 miles. Seems like a good deal but I have not bought a new bike in a long time and I am always use to being able to haggle, does not seem like the case with BMW dealers.

Makes sense to me. Given that it isn't new, still worth a bit of haggling if only on principle... good luck and enjoy the bike should you get it.

Brake reservoir looks a bit different. I think that's about it. Hmm, orange.

So far not hearing a reason to go with a 2010 vs. a 2009 or even 2008. Yeah "orange" seems to be one of those hip colors that will soon be out of fashion, but I never seem to be in step with fashion anyway and find it easier not to give a damn.

You need to check your facts on the warranty. It really isn't a big deal but, since the bike has been put in to service, the warranty is tolling. The warranty begins at the time it is put in to service, not when you bought it. But, that could just be a CA thing. Regardless, check!

There are no changes to the new 2010s other than color and they come with the latest software updates, etc.

I'm in the same boat ... looking for a GS now. Those prices are $1k higher than MSRP on the BMW website ($12,500 for Standard pkg incls ABS, white turn signals, heated grips, and OBC ... center stand is $150). I wonder if there's that much demand in my old stomping grounds or if that's a mis-print.

I looking for out-the-door at $12,500 with the standard pkg.

I will ask them about the warranty again... they did make a point of it when in the sales mode. I will defiantly get it in writting.

So based on the prices listed above it might not be a bad deal. I will try and see if I can get anything more off.

I don't want to HiJack the thread, but I am also looking for a F800GS. I want a 2009 because well, color does matter and I don't care for the new ones, I want the black and yellow. If anyone turns up a well cared for 09 with the standard comfort option (ABS and heated grips) Please post or drop me a PM. I am also interested if there were any real differences in the 09 vs 10, aside from the normal recall items fixed.

Thanks
Darren

Sounds exactly like the bike I bought! Except I got Jesse side cases instead of the BMW top case and didn't get the touring windscreen.

So happy I got it!!

As to the issue of haggling, when I bought my '09 800GS I tried to get the shop to budge but my salesman said that they wouldn't haggle. In a very courteous, friendly way (I wound up buying from them and still feel like I made the right choice) he let me know that the demand for the bike was so high that they knew it would sell at full price. I've kept in contact with my salesman and they have run out of the bikes a couple of times so far this year.

FWIW,

Joe B.
