My RD04 with 240,000km on it has been making the same noise for 100,000km, no idea what it is ( maybe clutch basket ) but dont worry about it. Lots of Hond'a have a clutch rattle.

Copy and paste from the TransAlp Modification thread...
I saw my first AT in Thailand this summer (July 2005). The rider was riding behind our little pick up truck as we drove through Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. At the next traffic signal, he was right behind me so I asked him (or rather shouted at him over the noise of the traffic) where he had ridden from. He replied "England" and briefly told me his route and that he was on his way to Australia. I think, (it was noisey), he said he was headed to South America, North America then home over the next 12 to 18 months. He had a pretty Thai woman on the back of the bike so at least he was being properly "serviced" on this leg of the journey It was a cool looking bike and I've liked that look ever since. I wish I knew who he was (maybe the UKGSER crowd would know) just to find out how he's doing? ride safe! |

AT newbie
Hey guys. New to the idea of the AT but very interested. Love my
GS but the thought of something different has always been in the back of my head. Is the 750 the same engine as the Pacific Coast we had here in the states? How hard is it to get your hands on one here? Thanks in advance for the info. chau, Dino

Hi Dino,
I guess you gotta do as Modrover did track down an AT and persvade the owner to sell it to you... ;) And I don't think it's too many 750:s availible in US mostly 650:s... All you can do is keep an close eye on ebay/craigslist or whatever online sales place there is in the US. Cheers, Zappa

It's not an AT but there's a Cagiva Elefant 650 on eBay right now. It's different too. Jim. |

Ok, I need some help from the AT experts. I finally found an AT rear wheel for my AfricaAlp. Problem is I need to get a new sprocket for it. Does anyone know of a US bike that would have the same 5 hole bolt pattern that the AT does? The TA has a 6 hole bolt pattern.

Sprocket Specialists
Jeff, I can't take my wheel off until after the end of February. After that, I can so I could take some measurements to send to Sprocket Specialists. But you could do the same. All they would need are some dimensions like the diameter of the hole pattern, the ID of the sprocket and the actual hole sizes. They would match up with what they have or make one for you. I'm pretty sure there would be a match. I've had luck with matching part numbers with some VT750 models.

Hi Jeff, some CBR 1000 (was that Hurricane in the US?) parts fit the AT.
Did you check www.atic.org? Good luck! Dirk |

engines
Hi folks,
As I've mentioned before, I've got a 88 RD03 whit a 400cc engine in it, instread of the 650. I'm thinking about upgrading it to a 650. I was a 650 from a Transalp on EBay, in the UK, and it might go for a good price. (The seller hasn't responded to me yet, and no bids on the engine 100 pounds sart, maybe a reserve.) I suppose I have a few options: 1. Wait for a AT 650 to show up on Ebay and snag it. 2. ditto for a 750 from an RD04. 3. Try and put a 650 from a TA in it. (Shouldn't be a problem as the 400 is from a TA, and apparently the only difference is the heads. 4. Feed steroids to the 400 and hope it grows to a 600 or 650. (maybe that's just new heads, but I figure there is a whole lot more involved.) Any advice, or anyone with a decent spare 650 kicking around. Thanks... |

It's alive!!!
Some of you thought I stole the 94 AT back in August from a guy in California based on what I paid for it. Well, I feel that's what I did with the 91 AT I picked up from a guy in Oregon. I bought it as a parts bike as the previous owner described it. It didn't run because the engine seized up instantly. It turned out to be one of the nuts securing the valvetrain cap backed off and wedged itself between the camchain and sprocket. I replaced it and torqued everything down. I think the guy that replaced the camchains forgot to torque down the bolts and nuts.
After a few weeks of waiting for seals and gaskets, I put the bike back together. I fired it up yesterday and it purred like a kitten. Oh yeah!!! Here are a couple of shots of the AT. These are pre CR fork pics. That's my next step. The rear wheel is now an 18" Excel rimmed unit built by Woody at Woody's Wheel Works. ![]() ![]() I have to finish this soon. I'm taking it to Big Bend next month. I'll post more pics after the CR front goes on. Yeah, that's a GSXR muffler on my Honda. Jim. |
