Cool2 NAATS 2010 Update - #2 - Important.

This is important.

Have I mentioned that this is important ??????

I called the Bearcat Lodge today and talked with the owner, and simply, I was floored - in a most amazing and positive way.

Here's the deal and info first, and then I'll get to the conversation we had.

I need a fairly accurate / confirmed head count as soon as possible. I do not need this tomorrow, or the next day, but seriously I need this in the next few weeks ( 4 to 6 ).

So, Ladder ........ do you think your son is going to join you?
Or, Alainmax, same thing ....... except +2
Or, Mario, M.P., GSPD ... and Loco ...........
Or ... anyone else ?????

For the people that are most definitely on the fence right now, that's cool. The convo I had with J.D. was rockin' ..... but I need to get him a definite "confirmed" head count, and then an estimation of the maybe's.

Note: They are booked by motorcyclists through 2012.

With all that's planned for this get together as far as kick ass stuff in Oregon, this will be one of the highlights. I had no idea .........

The Conversation:

I called thinking that it was your typical Eastern Oregon Lodge in a Rural setting that just happened to be off of the ODBR. I was wrong. I called, J.D. one of the owners answered, and we started talking. I told him of the trip, and that a few of my friends have stayed there and suggested the lodge as a definite stopping point.

He asked me what friends, and I told him ........ and he was right up on them, by their ADV handles. He's also seen the 2010 planning page .... So then he starts telling me about the lodge, the location, and himself.

The lodge - Basically it's like Mike's Sky Ranch, per se, except it's in Eastern Oregon. Staying at the lodge is invite only. You have to know someone, basically, that's on "in" list. Which I do ....... ...... luckily enough. In fact, one of the pics on their website is of one of my friends up here.

Anyhow ..... get this. They don't have a fee rate for rooms ..... Meaning, they do not charge for the rooms. And ..... they have an open bar. And! ..... they feed you. They have a menu that you can choose off of, and they simply make it up for you. The owner told me (verbatim) "We seriously do not have to charge fees for anything ...... we're financially fine." But ..... we put a fish bowl in every room and ask people to donate what they feel their experience was worth. Besides the above mentioned stuff, they have a complete shop for maintenance stuff - A CNC machine - and basically anything you'd need for wrenchin'.

Location - from their locale, you could just hit so much dirt / gravel of varying technical difficulties, as well as super twisty tarmac that the lodge has become really well known by motorcyclists from around the U.S.

Their URL is: http://www.bearcatlodge.com

They also conduct / host adventure rides .......

J.D. - One of the owners: The guy is 67, but sounds like he's in his late forties. He's ridden off road circuits, done a ton of stuff semi professionally, been around the world, and totally knows and loves bikes. He's also a musician and has played with some very well known performers that quote " Musically you never know who's going to show up ..... and when."

He and his wife own the place, and really, I did not expect to have the conversation I had with the guy.

With what I told him about the route and when we would be arriving, he said that he thought it would totally work out schedule wise. I gave him what I thought the "in crowd" amount was and my est. of the maybe's. He said he'd keep in touch with me about the scheduling and update me, but again ..... he said he thought it was doable.

So there you all have it.

If it isn't doable, other arrangements can be made in Seneca, but I think this would be the schnizle ........

I will be updating the post page, either later tonight, or tomorrow with the details of the route ..... since I'm done with it.

G.

YES !!

GF, you obviously did something right in a previous life.

Book me for a week. I'll go up and machine up a bunch of new suspension links for everyone's bikes....maybe knock up a new shock as well.

I am certainly IN. (Just joking about the week thing, unfortunately)

My boy just graduated from UCDavis last June and has been searching for work since. I should have TA #2 ready well in advance of the deadline but if he finds a job.....that will take priority over the ride.

So, best I can do right now is 50%.....sorry, I truly wish I could be more certain.

Jeff: You had your chance last year at the BYOB in Harlan, KY. I was there with my AT, but now I'm in the NW. KY is just a little too hot and humid , at least in summer.
But your not the only AT rider in KY, there is one more in Louisville. Tyge is a great guy from Denmark.
