A friend of mine was doing 140km+ on my 2003 AT and no oil in the engine - the rear wheel locked up but he stayed upright. After the motor cooled down it started up no probs, but now my question is - what exactly happens when the bike over heats like this because of too little oil - what do I have too look out for and what are the do's and dont's - I am sick to my stomach - just put on new Michelin Anakee 2 and improvements etc etc. I need good info - anything similar happen to someone else...?

PLEASE HELP!!

If it runs, keep an eye on it! Change oil and see if there is any smoke...but it surely cut down the life expectancy on the engine. But for now, ride it.

But it probably had a heart attack (yea, the owner!) One can speculate, but piston rings may be the ones that melted temporarly or something in the trany just could hold up and locked up.

But running the bike with no oil? Why this happened in the first place? There are some basic needs that needs to be taken care of everyday, and you dont delay or postpone that!!!!!

I think that is what I am going to do - good oil and keep an eye on it - it is my fault for not checking the oil and yes i had a heart attack - too late now....

I would be concerned about bearings and possible crankshaft damage if you say the back wheel locked up. Listen for any knocking down low and watch your coolant temp gauge does not go excessivly hot faster than what you have seen before.

Did he see the low oil pressure light come on?

Where did you locate it? enough room? any pics?
