Pingel does I think and any shop can order it, if not in stock.

Hello fellow AT riders

I would just like to introduce myself and thank you for all the great posts and eyecandy in this thread

My name is Daniel, 28 years old and I live in Sweden. I just bought my first bike on Saturday. I have ridden motocross back in the late 1990's just messing around, but just now started to take driving lessons to get my license. For those of you who like to read about trips and see lots of pictures, have a look at my road trip "diary" from last summer, though be warned, I did drive my jeep and not a bike!

Well enough boring trivia about me and on to the bike.

I think I have found a gem. I first went to look at a pretty old Honda Dominator, but it was tiny, sounded boring, and had an oil leak. So back on the hunt for another bike and by chance I found it:

An Africa Twin from 2002, with less than 3000miles on the odometer. Yes you read it correctly! 4680km! It looks like it has just now left the Honda factory (if it wasn't for a LITTLE oxidation on the bare aluminum parts, I guess that can happen if it just sits there for 8 years)

I just took a few pics of it when I bought it and I have yet to take it home.

So here it is:

Hi Ladder. I'm always interested in reading what you ahev to say about the carbs. I'd like to know a little bit more about these "carb slide bleed holes". Where are they? (pointing to them on a microfiche would be the best - I could send you one via PM is necessary). What are the desired effects of this modification? Thanks again,

Main jet is too small. Your descriptions are good and from what you say, the bikes fueling is fine until you hit the main jet....then it runs lean. It accelerates fine so the diaphragms are most likely OK and you said you just drilled even larger holes in your baffles to make your pipe flow even more. Drilling out the carb slide bleed holes is just designed to get the slides up faster. This will likely make your symptoms worse if mains aren't changed.

2.
Small hole or crack in the slide diaphragm. I know, I said this was not likely but it can be the problem if it is positioned just right so that it opens a hole only when the slide comes up to the very top. Not normally where they crack since you don't ride at full throttle that often but it is possible.

3. Water in the float bowl. It is possible to get water in your fuel even if you fill at good service stations (why do we still call them that if no one there can actually service your machine any more and you spend more time waiting in line behind people buying GROCERIES??) If it's just a bit of water it will sit down at the bottom of the carb and only interfere when fuel starts coming up the main jet. Probably not because this symptom usually starts at 2/3 or greater throttle and not just at WFO. In any case, drain the bowls into a clear container of some sort so any water or debris can be visualized....otherwise you'll never know.

Thanks Ladder. All valid points and I'll investigate.
