Yep, saw the bikes here in indy last Saturday. I was standing next to Malcolm Smith when they unveiled them. They had Malcolm make a little speech about the good ol' days. They look just like last years bikes. The Husky rep said they would be about $1k less than comparable KTM's.

I'm trying to make a decision between the 630 and a new '09 610. The dealer is sending me a brochure on the 630. He thinks the bikes will be here in April or May. One dealer will not come off the $8000 msrp for the '09 610. I'm waiting on another dealer to make his offer.

How much should I pay (before taxes) for a 2009 TE610?

I knew more about the new TE630 than both dealers combined. One guy didn't even know that the 610 was discontinued for 2010.

If you buy new, do it all the way and get the 630. If you buy a 610 get a 2nd hand at a much lower price!

A good used one would be fine. Only problem is finding one. They've been non-existent here in the Gulf South region.

The 630 might prove to be a great bike. Might not. I don't want to be one of the first owners to find out IF it's not. And I sold my DR650 so I could get a much lighter bike. Looks like the 630 will be approx. 10 - 12 lbs lighter than the DR but the 610 will be about 40 lbs lighter.

The extra power of the 630 is not as important offroad as is the weight savings of the 610. The 610 has plenty of power.

First dealer wants $7,800 before taxes & registration. He calls that "OTD" pricing because it includes dealer prep.

That's just wrong in this market, give him until June and see if he cracks.

I know. As soon as the 630 is in transit to the dealership, the 610 price will start dropping.

The one thing that upsets me the most about some dealers are the lies - dishonesty about simple things that only a moron would believe. It's an insult. I would have purchased the bike already had it not been for the deceit.

Another amazing thing is how little these dealers know about the product they sell. Two out of three that I spoke to did not know that the TE630 was replacing the TE610. One salesman knew nothing at all about the 630's existence.

I've read of a number of folks that have had bikes shipped to them in the crate. Maybe give Halls or somebody with a good rep on your side of the country and see if they can do something for you. I'd suggest MotoXotica here, but I think that all of the 610's are gone in this area...great dealer by the way...e-mailed him asking OTD when I bought my 2007, got a quick reply with a price..told him to order it from the distrubitor and I went and got it..no trickery, same price, no sweat.

Yup! Call Hall's. I am stopping in there in the next couple weeks, I can check on inventory if you would like.

My sentiments exactly... I've never wished to have more power on my TE (or even on my DR) but many times wished the bike was lighter.

My 08 610 has plenty of power, I have never been stopped from doing something I wanted to do because it wasn't powerful enough. I would be happier if the weight was less, suspension was more tunable, airbox was higher etc. Still compared to anything else available, it is one sweet ride.

Mazi forks + Sachs shock v. WP suspension - there is your price difference right there.

Larryboy & 30bones, great advice!! Thank you! I called Hall's this afternoon and talked to Steve. He made it easy. 2009 TE610 shipped to my place for $200 less than the other dealer's "discounted" price. And I'm saving another $200 and 16 hours of driving since I don't have to go anywhere. I'm sending him a check Monday. Should see my bike by next weekend.

I suspect that the 630 will be night and day better than the 610 and the weight difference of 20lbs will be mostly academic (especially after lossing the twin exhausts). The 630 engine combines the top end of the 510 with the bottom end of the 610 and will be a killer of an engine. Both have been already tested. Stay tuned!
[At least dont take any decisions till the 630 is ridden by the press.]
