Livin' on Tulsa time

Left the house about 4am yesterday and got to Tonkawa, Oklahoma about 1:30pm yesterday.... it was 108F and stifling humidity.
Stopped in Lamar for the night just before sundown as a nasty front rolled through.

Worth the trip.

lowering links come off tonight, and the forks go back up in the clamps.

But Danny Flowers wrote Tulsa Time, no ?? (with a possible co-writing credit to Don Williams Jr?)

But Cale's origianl versions of After Midnight and Call me the Breeze can't be beat. (With Skkynyrd's live version of Breeze a close second). Clapton still has the quintessential "Cocaine" to his credit IMHO.

I'm a sucker for singer/songwriters.
Townes VanZandt, Steve Goodman, John Prine, Kinky Friedman, etc.

Ben, I've been stuck on Vic Chestnutt for a few months. Ever listen to him?

I remember listening to him when he first came out, because I was a big R.E.M. fan and I'd heard that Michael Stipe was producing him. I caught him on Craig Kilborn back then (see below). Then I kind of forgot about him until his death last year. NPR did some nice tributes to him and replayed some old interviews w/him.

But for me, it doesnt get much better than this.
Townes VanZandt singing his once obscure "Loretta"

&nbsp
&nbsp

Now that song has been covered by everyone under the sun (Ray LaMontagne does a nice cover - as does Lyle Lovett).
Here's 4 of my favorites (John Prine, Ray, Elvis Costello and Lyle) doing Loretta. The only thing missing is a little Steve Goodman.

And lastly, here's Townes doing 'Waiting Around to Die".

I was just making reference to the Tulsa sound and my favorite native son.

Cale's 1972 album "Really" is my favorite....and doesn't have any of the well known hits on it.

Reminds me of something right out of On Any Sunday, resolution and all!

It's a great pic...the youthful face of joy!
