Vegas/Pahrump

I made it to Pahrump one day -

No problems, bike rode great. Less than a week later it's dead in a parking lot on Blue Diamond. Harley had to come and get it.

Then I had to ride on a fender up to the Mountain Springs Saloon. Next thing I know I'm riding this!

One of my stranger weeks on a bike. They seem to like bikes in Vegas. Dogs too.

I have taken numerous local "1000+ mile" rides on my '95 FXDL but only recently got into the digital age so no photos. I will fill some space in here after the ride we're planning from SoCal to Utah starting on 11/1/09. Keep watching this space!

Thanks for the great idea!
Seeing the 1rst Cav Patch has me waiting for this one.......

You're welcome. Altho my first Harley was much newer than yours ('76 FL), it appears we cut our teeth on H-D's about the same time (early '84 in my case).

I wish I still had my old Shovel, and I'm bettin' you wish you still had your old Knucklehead. :-)

I bought the knuckle in a basket back in 1979 (still have the bill of sale from it). Took me about a year and a half, but got er up and running. (the guy who sold it to me just about shit himself...never thought I'd get it going) hahaha....BASTARD!!!
Sold it in '96 to Keith Ball (who was the editor of ER at the time...kinda thought that was a cool way to end our relationship)

And, yea, it'd be neat to still have her...but then again, I don't like stuff sitting around that's not getting used on a regular basis...especially if it's pretty. (I have several bikes and a hot rod. I use the shit outta them all, and ride em way too hard for them to worry if their nice and clean or not.)

Wanna know the odd thing?...I'm a custom painter and builder fer a living. I build beautiful bikes and rods, and do glowing custom paintjobs all the frikken time...but I can't stand em for myself. I'd much rather ride a road weary rat than a shiney new custom anything. I like user-friendly. I once put a trick paintjob on the knucklehead...it lasted for about 3 months, and it was totally shot ta hell. I rode flat black road rats before they were cool.

This was taken in the Everglades. I was completely alone. The grass around me was about 3 feet high and it extended for miles in all directions. After I took the photo and was walking back to my Deuce I said to my self, this may not have been the best decision you have made today. Hopped on the Deuce and got out of there. When the starter fired the engine I felted relieved. I drove to end of road in the Everglades.

Interesting. I spent six months of 1979 bobbing around the waters of southeast Alaska on a fishing boat. Life was hard. We'd stay out a week at a time, then put in to port for 24 hours, get the boat cleaned up and re-provisioned, then put out to sea again for another week.

After a while, ya start to miss being human, and for me - and all of us here - a huge part of being human is riding.

Prior to '79 I'd only ever had Japanese bikes; Harleys weren't on my radar.

One of the few "extracurricular" activities on the boat was reading. No, there was no time to truly read, so we had magazines with lotsa pictures to go along with the words.

One of our regular mags was..............Easyriders.

Over the course of the season I decided I'd get myself a Harley some day. I wanted a piece of the action that I saw portrayed in ER every month.

It took me another three and half years to make that particular dream come true, but it was worth the wait.

It's no stretch to say that Easyriders magazine was the catalyst that put me on a Harley for the first time, and the year was 1979. :-)

Take care,
FF

The 3 guys to the right of the OldCoot are responsible for getting me back on a bike a couple of years ago... my three sons took me up on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Maggie Valley and rented a very nice Dyna for me (I nailed the throttle and accidently fish-tailed wildly -- I was hooked again):

After trying to get used to a DR650 for a few months (it was a great bike, just not for me) I bought a 2006 slightly used Sportster. This was the starting point in 2008 for my trip out west:

This was somewhere in New Mexico... loved that state... no one on the roads!

Arizona and the Grand Canyon are beautiful... this is the only shot I took at the GC with my bike:

Here's a better shot of the GC...

You can't beat Monument Valley for some of us OldCoots...

A better picture of the valley...

I really was amazed by Zion Park in Utah...

They carved some cool tunnels out of the beautiful canyon walls...

But the highlight of my trip last year was Colorado... I just love that state...

This was on Skyline Drive a couple of weeks ago...

And upstate New York on the same trip a couple of weeks ago...

Lake Placid in New York just before it snowed...

Keene Valley NY... riding south to avoid snow...

Thanks for letting me post them again... and bring back some great memories for me.
