Market too small, unless priced so high people who would want one couldn't buy it.

Post up a pic of it! I remember finding that model jeep and an old lady had it for sale. It had like 20k original miles, the price was a bit high though for me at the time.

hey now no picking my my bad spelling that spell check can't catch. I I just don't fix..

Don't got a pic of the thing. I'll have to get one. but it's a 78 Levis CJ5 Renegade. factory 304 with a 3 speed. soft top. really close to sky blue. the price has not been set yet. Only major problem it has is a U join on the right front is bad. and one lifter taps. has for the 12 or more years we've owned it.

I'll talk to My Dad and we'll get a price set. he really needs a UTV so it's the down payment.

sounds similar to mine!

77 cj5 renegade, had levis interior, 304 amc, and a t150 3 speed, dana20 t case.

It would pop a wheelie in low range 1st gear.

the owner before us broke both rear axils trying to do just that... i do know it's the fastest thing in the 1/4mile I've ever sat in..

it's would be a easy restore. and to drive it daily it just needs new tires and a new body lift kit. the one that's on it is shot. it wasn't installed right and we don't use it enough to worry about it.

so you know, I did the only sensible thing a guy from Mississippi/Arkansas could do..

I pulled the 304 out, and built a 360 to go in.

Mine had fenderwell headers, and yep it sounded GREAT.
I sprayed some ceramic coating onto factory manifolds and sold the headers though.
the were too vulnerable right behind the wheels.

Agreed, those 304's sound great! And yep the CJ axles dont hold up too well, but then again none of them do if ya got a heavy foot.

we ran the thing for years with a all but bald set of 31s on it. low range 2ed gear and it would idle anywhere you wanted to go. I even pulled quite a few people out of holes and they had taller and better tires them me.... LOL. I love to drive it and if we keep it till summer I'll probly put insurince on it again and drive it to work some. but it do love the gas.

I put a amc20 out of a grand wagoneer, much beefier axle tubes, and shafts ( 1 pc) and a few inches wider than the narrow track cj

Didnt the CJ's have splines/hubs on the ends of the axles that were prone to breaking/stripping? I've never had a CJ but a friend had a nice one with a 350 Chevy in it that he sold recently, I should have bought it but have too many problems already. The kid that bought it drives it around town alot, he tinted the windows dark and painted it od green with black wheels.

I don't have a clue on that. I do know that hen they broke the axels on this one they ran out and tore all of the rear brake system off. we had to rebuild all of that when we got it. Like I said my Dad needs a UTV and if I can talk him into useing the money from slaing the Jeep to get one I'm going to sale it. if he wnont do that i'm keeping it. it's takes very little money to keep it as it is and running. I can sit on it and maybe one day aford to have insurence on all my toys.. LOL
