Last summer I rode it to every grand national flat track race from mid season on. Every other time I backed it out of the garage it was time for an oil change. Every four times I pulled it out of the garage it was time for a rear tire. Truly an impressive little road warrior.

Need a W650 jolt, mine's sleeping in this season.

Anybody riding or modding and have a report for us?

Our Wub finally said it's time to clean the carbs and ace the CARB (CA EPA BS) paraphernalia. This is on the to do short list. Actually surprised she went this long before saying enough is enough. It's time!

I've been riding and a little wrenching, changed the stock bars to euro bars, the carb airscrew mod, blocked the exhaust air injection, new tires, new chain and sprockets also added bar end mirrors.

Next on the list is to figure out how to mod the stock seat, that hump is too far forward.

Which year seat? Supposedly the '01 was changed and is a little more comfortable.

With the euro bars you may find the seat hump in just the right place. With the OEM bars I was always trying to move back. Once I went to the low bar kit, I no longer felt that I needed to scooch back.

Give it a longer try before surgery.

It's a 2000 model.

Thanks, I've been able to put some miles on it with the lower bars, seat position is still too far forward. I have the Corbin cafe seat on my old R75 and it allows for perfect seat position. I like the look of the stock seat on the "W" and hope to keep it, but that seat hump needs to be set farther back.

Have you considered finding someone with an '01 model to do a seat swap for a test run?

I've read that Kaw was aware of the problem you mention and took action on the '01.

That would be the easy solution, plus you get to keep the stock seat you like. I also happen to like the ribbed look of the newer seat a little more.

Fwiw, it has been said that most shortcomings with the 2000 W was due to the unique choice of handlebars for the US market only. This includes both the seat and front forks. Equipped with the 'standard' bars, the stock seat hump lens itself better to the reach to the bars as well as loading the riders weight forward to better load the forks.

I would love to try a seat swap but I don't know of any other W's in the Savannah area, I'll keep my eyes open for an 01 seat, hopefully they did address the seating position.

Hey - any of you guys have a battery charger you use on the W that you'd recommend? I'm also in the market for a cover if anyone has any thoughts on that as well. Many thanks.

I use an Optimate. Put a fused lead on the battery--that also makes another port for heated gear (in addition to the OEM leads under the seat).
