Does This Trunk Make My Butt Look Big?

Does This Trunk Make My Butt Look Big?

Needed some carrying capacity on my W.

The rack is a modified XT225 one off Ebay.

Did the width have to be modified, or just the mounting holes?

Width was ok. I'll take some better photos to show the mods to the rack if you are interested.

Excellent! Thanks for the step by step.

Dedicated W racks seem hard to find, expensive, and prone to cracks (or all three).

Since the sides are fairly straight, doesn't look like it would be too hard to fab one up.

What is the market like for the W650? I am thinking I would love to get my dad one of these. Perfect combo of modern bike with old school look. He has 3 BSAs. He also like the new/old Triumph Scramblers but I would image that a W650 would be had for a few less $$ but I may be way off base.

I just paid $3800USD for a very nice 2001 W650 with 2025 miles.

Interesting... Based on the market, I'd venture to say that you got a very good deal. I think pristine 01's get close $5k these days with generally decent w's going for around $4k.

Of course I think I paid too much since I sold a almost perfect 2001 to Uncle Ernie (RIP) for $3500 six year ago. But I am very happy with my W and I am glad that I found a very good one.

The W650 is a very nice bike. Too bad we don't get the W800 in the USA, not that I think that it is that much better than the W650.

Mine was $2100 with about 5200 miles. It had a parking-lot drop in the left side, mostly repaired. I had to look carefully to see most of what damage remained. But I got it from a dealer who sold it originally, took it in a trade, and never was able to sell very many of them when they were new. Also got an employee discount 'cause my son was working there at the time!!

I agree with the comments above; expect to pay $3500-$5000, depending on the local market and the influence of Flea-Bay. Having had mine for a couple of years, knowing it's strengths and weaknesses, I'd pay up to $5K for a pristine Dubya . . .

Yup, I've been monitoring Cragslist in Canada (and the US) for quite a while now and you don't see many for sale here but the really nice low mileage ones I've seen sell lately have been for between $5,000 - $5,800.
That's in line with the slighty higher prices for bikes, and cars, north of the border.

These are incredible bikes, I just did my first valve adjustment and carb sync on my bike at 10,000 miles and the valves were nearly all right on, in fact if anything some where still slighty over spec (wide) and the carbs were in perfect sync. Now if I could just get rid of the buzzing....................

Ride faster, they decrease the faster you go.
