Good sentiment!

Went tagging today, collected the NOVA tag on the Dubya.

Nice ride today!

Beautiful day for a ride. Weather was in the mid 70's. This picture was taken along Oregon Route 242.

Other Speedo Images

Here's a couple he sent to me of W800's on a showroom floor in Sweden.

"Hi,

Back from Sweden with some photos. For some reason I thought it was all black, wrong.

Another inmate also volunteered to post, so I'll spread the wealth.

Price tag reflects 7 Swedish crowns to the dollar.

Thanks for posting for me!!"

So did I read the price right, over $13K, almost $14K for this puppy in Sweden? My '01 cost maybe 1/6 of that, used, a couple of years ago . . .

Nice photos though, and I appreciate Speedo sharing with the rest of us inmates . . .

ORexpat,
Yep, $13k to $14k is too rich for my blood. Nice looking W800 though.

Yeah, everything is expensive in Sweden. They tax the crap out of everything you buy, don't even think about alcohol, not that it stops them.

In their defense, Swedes get a lot back, such as free medical care and all their colleges are free.

Didn't check unfortunately for the cost of the base model, I think I was in shock with that Special Edition price tag.

Thanks to Barnone and ORexpat for posting!

W650 in France

Hi Guys,

https://www.dropbox.com/s/847171n6qf...-10-WebRes.jpg
Seems I can't post the image from Dropbox, just the link.

I'm not just jumping into ownership of the W650, but straight into the garage as well! I just bought a 1999 W650 with 18,000 km in a town far away from where I live. Spent 2 days on the road heading home - amazing scenery here! I love the bike so far, except the pipes are ear shatteringly loud. All was well and good until I had to limp to the side of the road with some wonky fuel issues.

Still having the same issue (gas in the air box, seems like both sides) but I'm about to adventure to the garage and try an muck about a bit. From what I've been reading, there doesn't seem to be a huge advantage of going with wizz-bang fancy racing carbs (maybe other than reliability?). I'll try fixing these.

I was planning to remove the air box in favor of filters and changing the jetting to match. I was really trying to find a set of high scrambled pipes, but near as I can tell, this is what's out there now. I talked to Martin at w650shop.de, and they no longer carry them. Anyone have a slick inside track? I was going to hold off for a bit on the upgrades for budgetary concerns, but now I HAVE to buy some bling

Expensive Japanese scrambler pipes

Originally I wasn't a big fan of the fireball orange color, but now I'm starting to think its appropriate as I could burst into flames at any moment.

Looking forward to getting on the road with this beast!

I've been eagerly reading that. But while taking the air box apart, I noticed the hose to the reed valve was split. Anyway that could cause this problem?

While I'm here, I'm still planning on pulling the carbs.

Are you saying that the vacuum hose that drives the air pump is split? If so then that would cause a vacuum leak that would cause a problem. I would fix that with a new hose or cap off the fitting before I messed with the carbs.

Well, I've already pulled the carbs, air box, reed valve, and exhaust. I'm going to order new cans, air filters, exhaust, and jets. Maybe a few other items as well.

I've notice a bit of black in one of the carbs on the engine side port as if there was some bad combustion going on. Is this normal?

Also the exhaust ports are really sooty. Par for the course or indicative of an issue?

Sorry to noob it up here. I really thought I was going to have a bit more time to get up to speed and browse the shop manual and the like.

Edit: Yes! The hose was split! I think I will just go with the deletion option.

My 2001 seems to black up the spark plugs. Guess it is running rich?

In case you don't know there is a lot of W650 info at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/W650riders/ especially in the files and database section.
