Holy shit! A mystery solved. After riding that thing long distance you had to know you could go anywhere on a hard tail. Even RTW. Musta been real quiet on that thing too.

I was thinking just the same thing. Have you any hearing left Doug?

Headers only, ending in front of you, I'm thinking that "noisy" wouldn't start to describe it.

That picture

It is a measure of our regard for you that, since that picture, there are now hushed voices and a trend towards more tolerance on the internet.

However, you wouldn't have been goofier with antlers.

Funny that you would mention that. I used to have a set of deer antlers on my helmet, 8 point rack IIRC. I painted Helmet Laws Suck in German on the back of it.

I'll have to see if I can find a picture....
In the mid 80's, on this same bike, I took my (then) 15 yr old brother to a Alice Copper show in Dayton, OH. As he was under 21, he had to wear a helmet, so he wore the antler one. We were up front at the concert, & both got sprayed a bit with fake blood. On the way south at 1am, a truck in front of us hit a deer. then we hit the deer. its a wonder we didnt wreck, but if we had, I can imagine the cops
'that poor guy got the antlers stuck right in his head, and look! they are covered in blood!'

the antlers sucked real bad above 60mph, so I went with bull horns after that. I quit wearing it all together when I saw people at bike week selling helmets with horns. when it becomes popular, I usually lose interest pretty fast

That was AMI ? There's credentials in that training but not many graduates purchased the go-go dancer shirt.

I went to AMI in 91, but already had (part) of the shirt.

I actually spent 200 hours getting factory certified on BMW's, then when I went to BMW shops after I graduated, that had contacted me & asked me to come apply for a job, I realized I didnt care much for BMW shops

so in amongst the frenzy of being made fun of for my style of dress in the 80's, I've also been workin on the new dirtster.

I did the wheels before the new tires were installed

I know, you are thinking WTF? whats with the hippie lookin technicolor spokes?

Not to worry, those are just straws, I split them, & put them over the spokes so I can paint the rims black.

Anyhow, I got a good bit of it mocked up this weekend, waiting on the shocks to arrive, and a few other parts. I really cant wait to ride it!

still not sure what I'll do about the headlights yet, guess I'll fab a bracket for a set of big hellas I have

Doug

Hey, I used one of my wife's old purses for a time as a tool bag when we first got our GL1500. I also had a couple of friends that did the same thing on their Wings. That was where I got the idea. It's not being cheap, it's being thrifty. Making use of the resources at hand.
