My friend Ivo works in a village about 15km from here. He found an Izh, so I went to look at it.
its a planeta, no sidecar. He wanted 150 for it. We finally settled on 130, if he delivered it.
The next morning, he pulls up with it barely in a trailer. Its a wonder it didnt fall out. It had a piece of wire around the
front wheel, & 2 pieces of string holding the bike.
Its the rare 'hot rod' model, with flames.

So then this guy knows of another one, with sidecar. Poly & Ivo go to look at it, as Poly knows
the price is higher for foreigners.
She bats her eyes & acts cute, & gets it for less money, about 190.
So we go to get it. the guy figures out I dont speak bulgarian very good, & gives Poly a hard time for tricking him.
I said he was lucky he dealt with her, because would have offered less

It wasnt running either, and its only 15km to the house, so I just had them pull me.
It was a bit scary at times, because its rather hilly, and Izh brakes suck. I kept looking at the
back of the car, wondering which way to bail if I was gonna hit it!
But I didnt, & we made it back ok.

We got a few looks passing thru the villages tho!

You are probably wondering why I am buying old crappy Izh's with sidecars.

two words

'sidecar paintball'

last year I imported a buncha paintball gear, & want to get 5 or 6 sidecar rigs so we can shoot at each other in the forests.
I think it'll be big fun, and also an added attraction for the motocamp.

Another friend told me of a bike stash about 50km from here.
do I want to see it?
of course!

this guy had about 50 bikes, & ALOT of parts. he had alot of cheap crap, but also had some pretty nice stuff.
many were covered with dusty blankets, & I was probably the first to look at them in years.

He had a couple bikes that I have been looking for, a Mockba (Moscow) made after WW2, its a DKW 125 copy, like a harley hummer.
also a Balkan 250, a bulgarian bike. the one I want is the 1st model, only made one year, as it was a copy of a DKW also, but without permission. they had to change it, & then made a copy of a Jawa (with permission)

I want a Balkan to tour Bulgaria on, I think it would be fun.

anyhow, heres pics.....

the Mockba

the Balkan, this model was made 56-57

unfortunatly, I didnt buy anything. I gave him a list of 10 bikes I wanted to buy, & he priced em at about 3 times what they should have been. It sucked, as I REALLY wanted the Balkan. I even did some research later, & showed him another for sale, & offered to pay him what that guy wanted for his, and it was a runner!
so far tho, I didnt get it.

But Im patient, & at those prices, they arent going anywhere.

heres some more pics

That Balkan is cool looking. I like that red one at the end with the fork tube covers built into the headlight, what is it?

its a Jawa from the 50's, probably a 250. Made in CZ

there were several of those in the pile, not really worth much here, unless real nice

Fuuny thing is I'm sure that guy knows exactly where every single part he owns is and can lay his hands on them immediately. Well, maybe. Looks like you're having fun. Carry on.

What is this, the one hanging?

Something about it appeals to me.

How many bikes were stuffed into that garage?

And yea, you are kinda nuts... not in a bad way though.

I think thats an early Simson, made in the former DDR

early 50's? it does have really cool swoopy fenders.

He claimed 50 bikes, I counted about 44

but they were stuck everywhere, he had a few buildings, all crammed.
I wish I could have made a deal on the pile!

but he was nuttier than a squirrel turd when it came to prices!
